June 1 - NEW YEAR'S DAY FOR ESA!

"Let Your Life Speak"

Kim Kummer, 2010-2011 KSC President
Kim Kummer, assumes the duties of President of the Kansas State Council June 1. Kim is a member of Delta Tau in Great Bend. She is working for Minnesota Outdoor & Lawn Ranger as the Market Operations Director and CFO.

Greetings! As the 2010-2011 Kansas State Council President of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, International. I invite you to take time to learn more about ESA and what we are doing in Kansas as you explore our website. This year I have chosen for my theme “Let Your Life Speak”. The phrase spoke to me…it touched my heart. How do you let your life speak? I like to think that my life speaks goodness to all I meet however I am human so I know that isn’t true 100% of the time. But how easy it is to smile at a stranger, lend a hand to a neighbor, or give of my time for a philanthropic agency. ESA members do those things multiple times over for many differnet groups. We raise thousands of dollars; give hundreds of hours and drive miles upon miles to support varied organizations & agencies some national and others local in our communities.

Kim's LogoI have challenged all Kansas ESA members to continue working to eliminate hunger in their own communities in 2010-2011. The opportunities are endless: volunteer at a food pantry, donate to school lunches and snacks, or provide nutritional meals to shut-ins. In addition to this challenge I have encouraged them to make Birthday Bags for their food pantries. These birthday bags consist of a cake mix, tub of frosting, box of candles and a generic birthday card. They can then be given to families who would not otherwise be able to celebrate a child’s birthday or even an aging parent. Who doesn’t like a little cake on their birthday?

Epsilon Sigma Alpha, International offers many opportunities to experience Good Works - Good Times - Good People. I encourage everyone to explore our website and contact a chapter in your area, or our State Membership Director, for more information about becoming part of the most dynamic volunteer and leadership organization today.

Epsilon Sigma Alpha is an organization dedicated to leadership and philanthropic endeavors. Founded in 1929 in Texas, ESA currently has chapters in most US states and Australia with our International Headquarters located in Fort Collins, CO. Although ESA is a Greek Letter organization, we are not affiliated with College or University sororities or fraternities. However, we do have ESA collegiate chapters across the country.

Kansas has 50 chapters and over 650 members in all areas of the state. Our members donate over 50,000 hours and at least $500,000 to philanthropic projects in their communities as well as to Heartspring in Wichita, KS and Goodwill Industries of Kansas; Easter Seals / Capper Foundation, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

The Kansas State Council leading ESA in Kansas

ESA was established in Kansas in 1930, but the Kansas State Council was officially organized in 1946. Kansas currently has approximately 50 chapters functioning throughout communities in the state of Kansas. These chapters support many local as well as state and international philanthropic projects. Heartspring has been selected as the state's philanthropic project since 1948, when it was known as the "Institute of Logopedics."

The Council Board of Directors meets four times a year to promote its programs and conduct the business of ESA. The ESA members in Kansas are proud of their history of accomplishments and will continue to carry the ESA torch into the future.

What is ESA?

BJ Clark - Executive Director(BJ Clark - Executive Director of ESA) Epsilon Sigma Alpha International (ESA) is a leadership and service organization bringing good people together to pursue programs that make a positive difference - locally, nationally and internationally. Since 1929, ESA members have used their network of more than 1,000 chapters to excel in community education, service and philanthropy. Their "hands-on" endeavors provide more than 650,000 direct service hours and more than $13 million for charitable causes each year.

ESA's unique program provides members with training, education and support they need to promote successful public service projects, while developing personal and professional skills in management, public relations and leadership. Always ahead of its time, it has blazed new trails in volunteerism and has become a primer leadership organization.
