INSTALLATION OF DISTRICT D OFFICERS
BY CHARLOTTE COMBS

Good evening sisters and welcome to Founder’s Day and the Installation of officers for District D. Joan & I are honored to share in this installation as we install our chapter member, Crystal, as District D President as well as the other officers – Evelyn, Nell and Debbie. Will the four of you please come forward.

Years ago women frequently used scraps of material to create beautiful patchwork quilts and what memories were to be found in these lovely creations! A bit of red from a dress worn to a garden party, a piece of blue and white from a shirt… a piece of gingham from the dress Susie wore her first day at school, an elegant piece of satin from grandmother’s “Sunday go-to-meetin” gown. All these patchwork pieces of material were put together with friendship and love. And, like the beautiful quilts, handed down from generation to generation, our ESA history makes up a “Patchwork of Friends” . . . the theme our incoming president, Crystal, has chosen for this new year.

Bits of color, different personalities, a mingling of hopes, dreams, desires and goals. We are thankful for yesterday – for those who had vision, for those who worked and planted the seeds of sisterhood that brought forth our beloved Epsilon Sigma Alpha, leaving for us a “Patchwork of Friends” in District D.

Our ESA life was built upon the labors of these sisters who trod the path before us. We are the heirs of all that has been accomplished, all that has been done, all that has been eloquently written, expressed and left behind for the guidance of tomorrow’s members. This evening we salute our Founders who laid the cornerstone of ESA and honor all who have shared in forming the high ideals for which we stand. We are thankful for tomorrow, which is full of surprises and opportunities for our new District D officers, for the challenges before them and for their opportunity to add to our “Patchwork of Friends”.

Before we proceed with the installation of our new officers, I would like to take a moment to reflect back on this past year with Rae. Rae you truly gave in all that you did. You met your obligations and responsibilities fairly and squarely with love and understanding. Your wealth of knowledge and expertise is still needed. You will be called on to continue to give the gifts of love, kindness, joy, understanding, sympathy and tolerance, along with the gift of encouragement, inspiration, and guidance to the new officers. Thank you Rae, for your leadership.

TREASURER Evelyn, In your hands is placed the financial welfare of the Council. Your patchwork piece includes sincerity, careful attention to detail and trust which are the characteristics necessary for the fulfillment of you duties. As you perform your duties as the financial officer of the Council, you will disburse funds as directed by the President and membership, in accordance with the approved budget. As Crystal presents to you your patchwork of friendship, keep in mind these words as you accept your office and prepare to be a part of the patchwork of friends it represents.

“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

SECRETARY Debbie, it takes patient hands to create a beautiful quilt that is great enough to hand down through generations, and it will take patient hands to wield the pen as you serve the membership by keeping accurate records of the Council’s accomplishments. Activities of the Council not recorded are lost forever. As a quilter chooses her stitches carefully, so must you choose well your words, writing with patient hands and love in your heart as you inscribe in permanent form the history and proceedings of the Council. Hold close these words as you accept your patchwork from Crystal:

“Sisterhood is like a golden chain,
that links are sisters dear,
and like a rare and precious jewel,
they’re treasured more each year.
Years can’t erase the pleasure,
That the joy of sisterhood gives…
For ESA is a sisterhood that lives and lives and lives!”

VICE PRESIDENT Nell, your sisters have placed their trust and confidence in you, believing that to the best of your ability you will support Crystal and help her build a stronger District. You will stand at her side and be ready to share the work and willing to fulfill the plans of your president. Your knowledge and friendship provide the patchwork pieces of color needed to complete the design. Always keep an open mind, observe, analyze, consider and question, and do it in the name of friendship. Take these words for your own as Crystal gives you your patchwork gift.

“People need other people as a performer needs an audience.
People need to know that other people are depending upon them,
Waiting for them, pulling with them.
People need people, who believe in them, trust in them, and expect much of them.”

Our quilt is nearly complete. President Crystal, you must choose the bright colors for the quilt that will become your “Patchwork of Friends”. The members of District D will look to you for leadership. As our leader you must see things from the eyes of your fellow officers and sisters. Put yourself in their shoes and help make their dreams come true. Believe in your sisters, trust them, love them, and thus draw out the best in them. You will find they will rise to your highest expectations.

In the coming year, use your heart as well as your head, be a self-starter, creating plans and setting them in motion. Crystal, to you is entrusted the leadership of District D. The new year before you will be filled with pleasures and disappointments, achievements and frustrations, happiness and despair. But primarily, it will be filled with love. Treasure love in yourself and you will give it to others. Give it to others and it will come back to you. Crystal, as you accept the leadership of this great sisterhood, we offer this blessing:

“May you walk the road of happiness and enjoy life everyday.
And have the time and have the will to laugh a bit and play.
To have your hopes and plans succeed, to have your goals come true.
All this and more is just a part of the blessing our love holds for you.”

No quilt is complete until the needle has taken the last stitch. CHAPTER PRESIDENTS you complete this “Patchwork of Friends”. You will share the responsibilities of our goals and purposes, and support our chosen leaders in all their endeavors. Leadership is vital to the growth of our District. Please come forward as your name is called and accept a small token of love and appreciation from Crystal as you prepare to build ESA in District D and put sill more stitches of love and friendship in the year ahead.

2003-2004 Chapter Presidents are:
Chi Epsilon – Mary Ocker
Chi Omega – Kay Foster
Delta Beta – Glenda Peterson
Delta Epsilon – Iretta Drechsler
Eta Phi – Barbara Fly
Eta Rho – Rae Duncan
Gamma Sigma – Betty Bolan
Iota Kappa – Loretta Terry
Iota Mu – Nell Heyen
Kappa Omega – Dixi Coates

Sisters of District D, use the “Patchwork of Friends” given to you this year. Join with our officers and pledge your support and share in the growth of all the good things we can accomplish. Experiences such as these inspire us and sharing them makes us kindred spirits.

“Our ESA family is like a patchwork quilt,
with kindness gently sewn.
Each piece an original, with a beauty all its own.
With threads of warmth and happiness, it is
lightly stitched together
to last in love throughout the year,
our ESA family – friends forever!!”

Ladies, I now present to you your newly installed officers of District D

INSTALLATION OF DISTRICT OFFICERS
"I believe in Angels"

Good evening sisters and welcome to Founder’s Day and the Installation of Officers for District D.

This evening we salute our Founders who laid the cornerstone of ESA and honor all who have shared in forming the high ideals for which we stand. We are the heirs of all that has been accomplished, all that has been eloquently written, expressed and left behind for the guidance of tomorrow’s members. We are thankful for tomorrow, which is full of surprises and opportunities for our new District D officers, for the challenges before them and for their opportunity to “Believe in Angels”.

Tonight we are gathered to witness the transition of leadership for District D. Would Nell Heyen, Marilyn Logbeck, Debbie Wilson, and Mary Ocker please come forward.

Before we proceed with the installation of our new officers, I would like to take a moment to reflect back on the past year with Crystal. We have enjoyed being a part of your “Patchwork of Friends” this year. Crystal you truly gave in all that you did. You met your obligations and responsibilities fairly and squarely with love and understanding. Your wealth of knowledge and expertise is still needed. You will be called on to continue to give the gifts of love, kindness, understanding, encouragement, inspiration, and guidance to the new officers. Crystal, please accept our continuing love and thanks for a successful year as the 2003-2004 District D President.

Treasurer – Mary Ocker - Your office is one of extreme responsibility, honesty and trust, for no other office is held more accountable than that of Treasurer. Trust is the essence of all angels – it is pure and simple and frees us to love. Love moves us to believe that all vision, thought and deed will be carried to the heavens when carried on the wings of trust. Just remember, that having this wonderful opportunity to serve will open doors to many new opportunities just waiting for you.

An ESA Angel’s trust and guidance is felt and seen and her work is called miraculous. If you are willing to accept the position of Treasurer of District D, please say I am and except your angel from Nell.

Secretary – Debbie Wilson - If angels had a job description, it would only consist of one task: do the work of love. Time passes by and steals the days and years. Changes are many and often . . . they always will be; however the written word lasts many lifetimes. Your angel will give you patient hands to wield the pen that keeps accurate records, attention to detail, and the words which create a precious legacy. A legacy that leads us down another roadway in the long path of ESA’s lifetime.

ESA Angels are the guardians of love and wonder, the keepers of magic and dreams. If you are willing to accept the position of Secretary of District D, please say I am and except your angel from Nell.

Vice President – Marilyn Logbeck -- Hope is the nomad angel, moving with grace and patience from place to place. Her presence is always with us as she watches over us with loving attention. She whispers to us to open our hearts and to share our talents and treasures with others. You will be the angel of hope and encouragement as you stand at the side of your President to assist in the success of her dreams and goals. With vision and good judgment, we know that you will support our President being ready to share her work and willingly fulfill her plans.

ESA Angel’s are with you every step of the way and will help you soar with amazing grace. If you are willing to accept the position of Vice President of District D, please say I am and except your angel from Nell.

President – Nell Heyen -- Tonight comes to you a high honor, that of being installed as the 2004-2005 District D President. If you seek an angel with an open heart . . . you shall always find one. As your officers stand beside you, they offer you angels of love, hope, trust, honesty and patience. You must reach out and accept with an open heart. We all have one purpose in mind, to serve those less fortunate and to serve ESA. The angel of love shines her light so that we may find our way and see all the best things in life more clearly. I know you will serve this office with dignity and to the best of your ability. To you is now entrusted the leadership of District D.

The quiet rustling sound of angel wings can bring you comfort on difficult days. The soft brush of their fingertips across your cheek can be likened to a smile when sadness intrudes. The sense of her presence can be as vibrant as a rainbow and as soft as a cloud. Her presence will come to you causing laughter to kiss your lips. Your angel can make you feel a gentle hug when your spirits sag, give friendship to brighten your being and beauty for your eyes to see. Enjoy these feelings and know all will be well this year, because there is always an angel by your side.

If you are willing to accept the position of President of District D, please say I am and except this angel. Sisters of District D, your officers stand before you having accepted the responsibility of their office. I would like to encourage all of you to lend your support to these officers and to this District, for together we will accomplish great things as we stand side by side as Nell’s ESA Angels.

Chapter Presidents, you will share the responsibilities of our goals and purposes, and support our chosen leaders in all their endeavors. Leadership is vital to the growth of our District. Please come forward as your name is called and accept a small token of love and appreciation from Nell as you prepare to build ESA in District D.

2004-2005 Chapter Presidents: (list them)

Sisters of District D, join with our officers and pledge your support and share in the growth of all the good things we can accomplish. Experiences such as these inspire us and sharing them makes us kindred spirits.

Friends are like angels
Who brighten our day
In all kinds of wonderful and
Magical ways.
Their thoughtfulness comes
As a gift from above
And we feel we’re surrounded by
Warm, caring love.
Like upside down rainbows
Their smiles bring the sun
And they fill ho-hum moments
With laughter and fun
Friends are like ESA Angels
Without any wings
Blessing our lives
With the most precious of things.

With my sincere congratulations, I now present to you your newly installed officers of District D.

INSTALLATION OF STATE COUNCIL OFFICERS
"ESA ... Free to Be ..."
Joy Thornbrugh's Installation - Written by Charlotte Combs

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the Installation of the newly elected officers of the Kansas State Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International for the 2008-2009 year, Charlotte, Joan and I are honored to be the installing officers. It is an evening that comes but once a year and holds special meaning to all of us. We are not only celebrating the accomplishments of the past year’s president, but we are looking forward to another year of special moments, memories, and accomplishments.

The honor guard is comprised of members of Epsilon Eta and Eta Phi. Will you please come forward?

Each of you has played an important role in Joy’s life by allowing her the freedom to be a friend and mentor in the lives of all of you. Thank you for sharing your love of ESA with her, encouraging her to follow her dreams, and supporting her in the culmination of one of the most special memories of her life. (Will the audience please rise.)

Tonight we thank this special lady as she completes her journey – she has led us with her heart this year. Pam, we had a wonderful year with you and your board as we experienced Love, Laughter, Leadership and Service. Please help me welcome your 2007-2008 Kansas State Council President, Pam McElvain escorted by her husband Kenny.

It is now my honor to introduce to you a special friend, sister and your 2008-2009 Kansas State Council President, Joy Thornbrugh escorted by her husband Terry. Audience you may be seated.

Joy, more than 30 years ago, I was beginning my first year of teaching. A few days before school was to begin, the phone rang. The voice on the other end said, “Hi, I’m Joy and I’m going to be teaching in Clearwater, too. We don’t live far from each other. Would you like to carpool? This was the beginning of a special friendship. A year later, you introduced me to ESA, and by Christmas of that year I was reciting my ESA vows in a special ceremony that completely changed my life. Tonight, I am honored to participate in a ceremony that will change your life forever: your installation as Kansas State President of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International. It has been a long time in coming, and I am so happy for you and proud of your accomplishment.

Terry – We are so grateful that you have become such an important part of Joy’s life. We have enjoyed getting to know you and watching your relationship grow. As you know, Joy is a dedicated member Epsilon Sigma Alpha and ESA is a very important part of her life. She will need your love and support this year as she carries out her duties as President of the Kansas State Council. This may require some sacrifices on your part. You may be needed to carry boxes to her car and then back again as she travels to various meetings around the state. You may need to lend a hand to ensure the household chores are done and supper is on the table. This will be a year full of memories that both of you will cherish as Joy fulfills her dream of being President. Terry, Joy thanks you as she knows you will be there for her. You may be seated.

Joy, the following officers will glide on butterfly wings this year as you allow them to bring their special gifts and talents to the membership. It is my pleasure to introduce the 2008-2009 officers:

Parliamentarian Mary VanderPol escorted by Mike Radke or Jerry Mentgen

Joy, another very important group of women that will be working diligently for ESA in Kansas this year will be the District Chairs. Please help me welcome the following:
District A – Sandie White
District B – Teresa McVey

District D – Cyndie Ewy
District E – Denise Masterson
District F – Marla Olson District G – Patsy Jenks

When you think of butterflies, the first thing that comes to mind is the colorful flutter of wings, but there is so much more than initially meets the eye. You as District Chairs will have the opportunity to spread your colorful wings as you lead your individual districts. You will also serve as the liaison between the State Council and the respective chapters within your districts. Thank you District Chairs. I know you will support Joy this year as you work in your district to further the efforts of membership, growth, and friendship. You may be seated. ----- Honor Guard, you may be seated.

This evening let us be conscious of our past, aware of our present, encouraged by our hopes and dreams, and strengthened by our common dedication to creating a brighter future. We feel a quiet comfort in our sameness and yet each being “Free to Be” ourselves on our journey of hope and dreams. This musical selection is dedicated to Joy, her Board, and all her ESA sisters.

“You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban

Joy has chosen “ESA Free to Be” as her theme and has found inspiration from the majestic butterfly. Butterflies are one of God’s most beautiful and delicate creations. They bring us joy and a sense of peace as we gaze at their splendor.

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory and beauty
belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Madam Jr. Past President/Counselor Pam, please join Joy at the center of the stage. We live in the present, we dream of the future, but we learn eternal truths from the past. You have shared your Love, Laughter, Leadership and Service with ESA this past year. Your talents will still be called upon as you serve our sisters as Counselor and Disaster Fund Chair. You will be expected to share the benefits of your knowledge with the new officers. Your free spirit will stand as a symbol of hope, love and encouragement as you help our sisters in their hour of need following a disaster. You will collect monies to continue a strong Disaster Fund on their behalf. Thank you for sharing from your heart with us and freely giving of yourself to ESA.

Madam Parliamentarian Janene or Mary, please join Joy at the center of the stage. Joy will depend on your expertise of parliamentary procedure this year. The magic ingredient to successfully serving as Parliamentarian is the art of being tactful. It is making others feel comfortable with your words of wisdom, kindness and consideration. It is putting people at ease and protecting ones’ dignity. It is standing beside your President, giving her your honest and impartial comments when needed. Joy has every confidence in your ability to perform these duties with love this year.

Madam Chaplain Crystal, please join Joy at the center of the stage. As our Chaplain, your responsibility will be to share the power of prayer with our sisterhood in a way that heals the sorrows of our ESA sisters, as well as embracing the joys of life with hope of new beginnings. The butterfly brings peace and enchantment to our soul as it transforms from a small cocoon to one of God’s most beautiful creations. Your words will comfort and encourage us this year in every situation. Your office is truly an office of hope and love.

Madam Membership Director Clara, please join Joy at the center of the stage. We are thrilled for you in this very special honor our President Joy has given you … in asking you to serve as the wings in helping Kansas chapters gain new members. You will be expected to inspire and create enthusiasm across Kansas. Your vision will be contagious. You have the privilege of spreading your wings enabling us to reach our goal of membership growth.

Madam Workshop Coordinator Bonnie, please join Joy at the center of the stage. The quest for self-improvement and the passion for excellence are part of Joy’s plan for her Kansas sisters. What you will bring to this office will be the opportunity to utilize your skills to organize workshops and communicate creative ideas and attitudes to your sisters throughout the year. Your free spirit and knowledge will lead us to learning, inspiration and fun. We look forward to your creativity as you prepare the workshops for the coming year.

Madam Auditor Janene or Mary, please join Joy at the center of the stage. As auditor you will review the recordkeeping of other council officers to ensure their accuracy. Your responsibilities also include the maintenance of the Long Range Plan for Kansas. The Monarch butterfly needs a detailed plan to migrate each year. We also need a Long Range Plan to ensure that ESA remains the strong organization that it is today. The information gathered from the Long Range plan will help guide our future leaders.

Madam Treasurer Phyllis, please join Joy at the center of the stage. Under your wings is placed the financial welfare of the Council. The membership has placed their total confidence in your ability to perform your duties. You will spread your wings of honesty and trust as you oversee the finances of the Kansas State Council. Though your job is a demanding one, it also is one where great knowledge and understanding of our organization is gained. This knowledge will serve you well in the future. Be diligent, true and dedicated to your responsibilities.

Madam Corresponding Secretary Cheryl, please join Joy at the center of the stage. Your duties as Corresponding Secretary of the Kansas State Council are among the most important. You are ever at the President’s side to perform the most massive and tedious tasks that need to be handled. You are indeed the right-hand of the President. Take advantage of your skills and talents to lighten the load of our leader. It is said that butterflies can fly 50 miles per day and that will be the speed you’ll need to keep up with the many tasks Joy will have for you.

Madam Recording Secretary Marsha, please join Joy at the center of the stage. Words know no boundaries; they fly freely as if on butterfly wings. However, when recorded, they are with us for a lifetime. They are used to celebrate the extraordinary events that take place in our organization, the fun-filled times, the outpouring of commitment and love, the plans and visions of our members. You will record these memories for prosperity with loving hands as you continue your ESA journey.

Madam Second Vice President Kim, please join Joy at the center of the stage. With this position you will fly higher than you have ever flown before as you work with Heartspring. Your challenge will be to encourage your sisters and the ESA chapters across Kansas as you spread your wings of love and hope to encompass all of those in need by raising funds for the Kansas State Philanthropic Project. This will be a year of great emotion and inspiration as you experience the dedication and service that is provided to the children at Heartspring. It will be a year you will never forget.

Madam First Vice President Pat, please join Joy at the center of the stage. As 1st Vice President-President Elect your wings will support Joy as she guides the way for all the officers. You will likewise use this year wisely as you prepare for the next year and encourage ESA members to step up and run for office and serve on the Kansas State Council. As you travel the state this year, you will need to spread your nourishing wings over all your ESA sisters as you plan our future. We know Joy will have your support and we are confident in your future leadership.

The following poem depicts the essence of all our officers as they stand before you, ready to spread their wings of freedom to be all you want them to be.

The butterfly has so many beautiful features.
Fragile, yet powerful wings adorn these creatures.
They look like angels from the heavens above,
A gift to fill our hearts with warmth and love.
In all their splendor and strife,
They are the symbol of new beginnings and life.
Gliding so delicately on the breeze,
Taking but a moment to dance with the leaves.

Madam President Joy, may this evening be the beginning of a year that allows you to be “Free to Be”. Free to accomplish your dreams and explore new horizons. Leadership is the art of bringing out the best in other people. Success is not built on what we accomplish for ourselves. Its foundation lies in what we do for others. Even when all is well, there is a future to create that we have barely dreamed of. We are honored to have a person with your talent, knowledge and ability to lead the Kansas State Council this year. As you spread your wings this year, we know your sincere love and devotion to ESA will be evident as you carry out the responsibilities you have accepted. Courage is contagious. When those around us demonstrate courage, it is easier for the rest of us to be brave. And if we are brave together, imagine what we can accomplish. Joy, we wish you the very best as you spread your wings and lift us to new heights of love and hope.

Please listen to the words of this special song we have chosen for Joy and all her ESA sisters and friends who have shared these special memories tonight.

“Circle of Friends” by Point of Grace

Ladies and gentlemen, please join us in congratulating our newly installed officers for 2008-2009 with a round of applause!

MEN OF ESA INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS
"A lighthearted ceremony - it can use singing or speaking the verses of the songs."

The Men of ESA installation should be light hearted and fun. Most are designed to be a spoof on the regular ceremony format or a roast of the individual/gender. Know the people you are working with to know what they would enjoy and have some fun with this. It can be an entertaining part of your convention.

The time has come to pay appropriate homage to our Men of ESA. It is a time to reflect on the lack of accomplishments of the past and to look forward with confidence to what we are certain will be continued ineffective, lackadaisical and uninspired leadership in the true tradition of all of the Men of ESA!

On that note we will hear from your current exalted leader whose example will pave the way for the future leaders of the Men of ESA You know _____________ thinks he is so funny, why just last night he asked me if I knew how many men it took to open a beer can and I said, “No”. He said, “Of course not, it doesn’t take any, it should be open when she brings it to him.”

Oh ladies and gentleman it is just that kind of dynamic leadership from the past that will lead our men forward to the future – a man is truly like a cooler if you fill him with enough beer you can take him anywhere. Tonight __________stands before you ready to step down and bid you a fond farewell. FAREWELL

Never before in the history of the Men of ESA has there been such a hard fought election. After hours of soul searching, campaigning, ballot box stuffing, and coercion and about a keg and a half of beer, the membership has spoken and these gullible, poor slobs that stand here before you were railroaded to carry forth the torch of leadership.

_________________________,__________________________truly if ever a man represented the sheer foolishness that has come to be associated with our Men of ESA, it is you! During the long days and nights of the year ahead as you lovingly and longing look into your wife’s eyes and say “Do I Know You?”, we want you to search your heart and look deep and hard into your very soul. We want you to ponder the great responsibility that is yours and then to ask yourself, “What in the Hell am I doing Here”. If you can’t come up with a reasonable answer – YOU ARE THE MAN FOR THE JOB! You know we can always tell when a man is going to say something important and smart – he begins the sentence with “My wife told me…”

_____________________over the years as _____________________dreamed and hope to aspire to this high office, you have been his source of constant support and inspiration. This evening ______________________has chosen this song especially for you.

(The real brave sing this, but you can speak the words with a little rhythm as well. This is to the tune of “Won’t you come home, Bill Bailey.”

Won’t you come Sweet, _____________________?
Won’t you come home?
I’ve cried the whole night long.

I’ve done the cooking honey
I’ve fed the dog,
You know you’ve done me wrong.
I remember that fateful evening - you pledge ESA,
Since that time I’ve been alone
You know you’re to blame – but I won’t complain…if
______________, you’ll please come
______________, you’ll please come
______________, you’ll please come home.

As a symbol of your good intentions to take up the honor of the men of ESA please accept this __________________________________ as a token of your responsibility. ___________________________

As you know, no one aspires to high office alone. The membership has chosen ___________ to serve beside your president _________________________ a man of experience who has been known to say It don’t take no genius to spot a goat in a herd of sheep. WE now proudly present the newly elected, much maligned, never understood Vice President of the Men of ESA.

____________________________ just as we directed your President to search his heart before assuming the awesome task ahead, we now ask you to look deep into your heart and ask yourself “What in the hell am I doing here?” If your answer is “Just Stupid, I Guess” then YOU ARE THE MAN FOR THE JOB. WE all know that if men ruled the world all things would be much simpler. Sorry I’m late but I got really hammered last night would be a totally acceptable reason for being late to work.

__________________________, _________________________knows that you and you alone are to blame – of course I mean to thank for the honor that becomes his tonight. He has chosen a special song that expresses his feelings more than mere words could every say.

(The Tune is “What kind of fool am I” – can be sung or spoken.)

What kind of fool am I?
To be standing here once more
You may think it funny, but oh honey
Wait till I get you out the door

I guess I can’t say NO
Like most any intelligent man
So I guess you all know
What kind of fool I am.

To symbolize your acceptance of this somewhat dubious honor, please accept this symbol as a token of your office. (Hand the officer something) As you can see the year will be filled with unbelievable memories. To record this year of foolishness and ineptitude the membership has elected a man who is both useless and undependable. You can always depend on him to do nothing better than anyone else whenever and wherever asked. He is the perfect example of why women would rather have beauty than brains – because men can see a whole lot better than they can think.

Ladies and Gentlemen we present ______________________the new Secretary and Treasurer of the Men of ESA. ___________________________to you befalls a grave responsibility. Before you accept this office we direct you to address your conscience and ask yourself with all seriousness “What the hell am I doing here?” If the answer is “They told me I had to” - THEN YOU ARE THE MAN FOR THE JOB

(Wife’s name) ______________________________, by now you must know that at long last the moment you have been awaiting with eagerness and anticipation has finally arrived. Your husband has a special song he dedicates to you from the bottom of his feet - heart.

(Song tune: “I wanna go Home.” Can be sung of spoken)

I used to be happy
I used to be Free
Till you done this to me

You were so sweet
In every way
You could make me do whatever you’d say

Now, I wanna go home
I wanna go home
Oh Lord, How I wanna go Home.

__________, As a sign of your intentions to follow the direction of your president and to fulfill the lofty duties of your office please accept this symbol of your office. (Hand the officer something)

By the authority in me vested, I now pronounce you the duly elected officer of the ___________________ Men of ESA for _________________________, _____________________.

I leave you with this one final thought that has always brought tears to my eyes. A man is like a horoscope – Always trying to tell you what you should do … and he’s usually wrong.

QUILT OF LIFE - THREADS OF REMEMBRANCE
Memorial Service Written by Coleen Cape

Music: On Holy Ground Sung by: _________________________________

Heavenly Father we rejoice in your love and benevolence as we come together this morning on this Holy Ground to offer praise, to share our joy and our sorrow and to seek your eternal comfort. We offer our sincere gratitude to you for gracing our lives with the sisters, family members and friends we remember here today.

___________ , will you please come forward and light the eternal flame.
Lighting of Memorial Candle: _________________________________
Father of Light, Flame eternal and never ending – offer us your spark that we may know that even as we remember those no longer among us, we will know that the flame of their spirit will forever warm our memories and will continue to burn as a beacon and enlighten our thoughts, actions and words as we live the Legacy of Friendship and Love they have left behind.

As _________________________ lights the white candle, let us remember the purity of heart and integrity of spirit that guides the lives of our sisters and loved ones.

____________________________, lights the green candle which symbolizes enrichment – all the ways our lives were enriched and impacted by the gift of their friendship and love. We will never forget one single smile, hug, word of encouragement or act of kindness.

The Pink candle represents, all the love – the amazing body of love that the lives we remember here today showered upon a needing world. Because they loved the world is a better place.

Burgundy represents the comfort we seek – and the comfort we give. We ask your comfort and courage that we may accept and understand your will in all things. Inspire us that we will always see the need in others and offer our comfort to those in need of such.

The Navy candle represents all of those unknown to us whose lives impacted us in a way we could never have imagined. Today we offer up a special prayer of remembrance for all the victims, survivors, rescue workers, families and volunteers of this great nation whose courage and sacrifice created a legacy of determination and dedication to the principals of freedom that will live in the hearts of us all for all time.

Opening Thought: __________________________________, Chaplain

With the death of each friend I have loved – part of me has died also, but their contribution to my sense of worth, my being of happiness, strength and understanding remains forever to sustain me in an ever changing world. As long as I remember – they remain. For as our Father told us

Scripture: John 11:25-26

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.

They will never die as long as we carry them in our hearts, whenever we need them they will be there.”

Music: “You’ll Be There” sung by: ____________________________

Scripture: Romans 14:5-7

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another then, just as Christ accepted you; in order to bring Praise to God.

Accept one another – not in spite of our imperfections but because of them; not in spite of our differences, but because of them; not in spite of our frailties, but because of them – it is not that which we have in common with others that makes us special or unique – it is those special and unique qualities we possess that makes it possible for us to create and pass on a legacy like no other. Each of us creating a beautiful quilt of life, sewn with threads of remembrance. Rejoice with me now as we remember and celebrate the lives of our departed sisters.

(As chapter sisters come forward to light a memorial candle or some kind of representation to remember the sisters who have gone the following poems and music will proceed. In this memorial service a quilt block was added to a quilt hung in the front of the room. Each piece represented the state’s sisters who had passed that year. When finished it completed the design of the quilt. The quilt was given as a gift to the International Council President that year whose theme centered around quilting.)

Reading: “The Quilt” Read by:_________________________________

MY QUILT

As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.

Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles. An angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry, a legacy that reflected our life.

But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile and began to sew it, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in everyday life. I saw all the hardships that I had endured, and they were the largest holes of all.

I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened. My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty – like trying to bind together pieces of air.

Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose, each in turn, holding up their tapestries. Oh how filled and complete their lives had been. Then it was my time - my angel looked upon me, and nodded for me to rise.

My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn’t had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life, and laughter, but there had also been trials of illness, death and self-recrimination. I had to start over so many times, I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to the Father in hopes that I would not melt away within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me. And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was and I had to accept it for just that.

I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light. An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who were all staring at me with eyes wide with shock and wonder.

Then I looked upon the tapestry before me – the legacy of my life. Light flooded the many holes, creating a luminous image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes, He said for all to hear, “Every time you gave your life over to me, it became my life. Your hardships became My hardship and your struggles became My struggle. Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let me shine through, until there was more of me than there was of you.”

Life is for some all good and for others all bad, but it matters not what life holds for you but what you are willing to give to the Lord, in whose name all things shall be done.

May all of your quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine His light unto the world through you.

Poem: My Sister Read by: ______________________________

My Sister

“In My Sister’s Face I saw an Angel,
her grace was a beauty designed by God,
her hands were strong but gentle, used to touch the ones she loved.
Her heart was full of courage and compassion,
She used it to shower the world with her love.
If I close my eyes, I can hear her laughter
And see the smile that lit up her face,
I remember her sense of humor that was simple
with a quality of good taste.
I will miss those long talks that we shared,
For in those hours we caught sight of a future,
Worthy of the world which we vowed to love and defend.
I now have sadly learned that time does not last forever,
I’ll cherish the lesson that she taught me, which was
To reach out and touch the heart of a friend.
And now her memory is a precious gift,
One that we will treasure with out thoughts of her,
While she sits with God and watches over all of us from above.”
(Written by Linda Fincham – Kansas)

Benediction: ___________________________, Chaplain

Go forth from this Holy Ground, love and cherish each other, do each other no harm, accept each other unconditionally and always listen with an open heart and answer with an open mind. Love each other as you were loved by the ones we honored here this morning. Go with the Peace and Blessing of our Father in Heaven and His Son our Lord Jesus Christ.

Outstanding Sister Ceremony
Written and composed by Coleen Cape

There are girls that are loud, and girls that are shy,
And some that are just down right demanding!
But the only word to describe the girl we honor tonight,
Is simply just very outstanding.

If God had decided to make you a star,
You would have been the brightest by far;
The star that outshines every other one,
If you were a star you’d be the Sun!

And if He’d made you a bird;
To fly the heavens’ above –
You’d be the bird of peace and love;
For you’d be a beautiful dove!

And if you were a flower ever so sweet –
You’d be the one that makes every garden complete.
The flower that’s most perfect of all we suppose;
If you were a flower you’d be a rose!

And of all these wonders
We know He could do.
We’re most grateful of all,
Cause He just made you – YOU!

A woman who gives all she can give
And then continues to give even more.
And when asked to help never asks anyone,
How much? or How Come? or What for?

Tonight ___________________________ gives it’s special thanks to you;
Not for what you did once or twice,
But for your work the whole year through.

A year you helped to give hope,
To those who had none.
And shared with your sisters,
Both friendship and fun.

So for all you have done,
And all you’ve yet to do.
Tonight we want to share
All of our love with you.

Now the time has come,
When there is nothing left to say,
Except how grateful we are
You found us and E. S. A!
Because you are special as love
And as rare as one perfect pearl,
We are proud to have you, ________________________ (name)
As this year’s Outstanding Girl!

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS
"ESA - A Love Song" - Written and composed by Verneene Forssberg

Sisters of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and guests, we begin this evening with renewed vision for our future and with a song in our hearts. At this time, we are pleased to introduce ______________________________ (the family of the President). We welcome them this evening as they come to honor _________________ and her accomplishments this year.

(The family will come forward to be seated up front toward the stage. Soft music will be provided as they are seated. The Vocalists will take their place. Two installing officers are used each trading turns reading the script. The dialogue will continue.)

The language of love is understood by all people. Love never reasons, but profoundly gives, gives like a thoughtless prodigal its all, and trembles then, lest it had done too little.

Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. Love still stands when all else has fallen.

The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved, loved for ourselves, or rather loved in spite of ourselves.

If our love is patient and kind … If it is able to suffer long, to endure every strain placed upon it in human relations, and still love … If our love is steadfast in pointing to Gods' love as is the needle of the compass as in pointing to the North … If our love is not discouraged even by repeated in gratitude and recurrent failures on the part of others, then patience and kindness are the fruits of having Christ within us. Are we nourishing our lives upon His life by prayer and worship and studying His word? If so, the fruit of patience and kind love will grow and will be available for the healing of our lives.

ESA – A Love Song - This is the theme for the coming year. Listen to the message of love sent to you from ____________________ (president’s name) as (vocalists) ___________________ sings “A love Long.” We ask that each of us re-dedicate ourselves to the love and closeness we feel for each other. Will you please stand and honor the President ______, as she is escorted by ______________________________.

The song “A love Song” will be sung as the president and her escort comes to the stage area.” When they get to the stage the husband will be honored with a poem if there is one to honor.

_____________ (Husband’s name) listen to _____________________ (President’s name) heart as she speaks to you.

My husband, my love, my dearest friend,
You’ve given me your heart to tend.
I’ve given you my life to share;
My heart is in your tender care.
My husband, my hope, my fondest dream,
We form a true devoted team.
In all the moments life may bring.
You are my star, my everything.
My husband, my source of lasting truth,
You stir in me eternal youth;
You give my heart a sense of pride;
You fuel my warmest thoughts inside.
My husband, my daily inspiration,
You’re the love in my equation.
You’re my source of deep affection.
You’re my compass and direction.

If we find someone, just once in our lives to share a special relationship with, we are truly lucky, but if we can find such a special relationship twice, we are blessed. To be loved, not because of who you are, but simply because you are will fulfill your life. This song is dedicated to (Husband’s name) __________ from _______________ (president’s name)

The vocalists will sing “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do” After the song the husband will leave the stage and be seated with the family members up front.

We stand once more at the threshold of another year. Please stand as we honor the Past President of the __________ (state) Council as she is escorted by _______________________

The pianist will play music as the past president is escorted forward though the honor guard. One of her chapter members will meet her at the end of the isle with a lighted candle and hand it to her as she goes on stage. The escort will assist her as she goes up the stairs to get on the stage area and then leave to go sit with the family of the new president. The honor guard will be retired.

The past president will be center stage with the new president facing each other in front of the installation table, which will be place center stage between them. There will be a symbolic passing of leadership from one president to the other. The past president will have the lighted candle in her hands. Upon command, she will deliver the torch into the new president’s hands. The new president will touch the torch to the large candle in the middle of the table. The new president will then hand the candle back to the past president. Upon command, the past president will then light a small votive candle on the table and blow out the candle she carried to the stage. She will lay that candle on the table.

_______________, your inspiration and love have led us throughout the year. We have traveled “Up Up and Away” (Use the President’s theme here) in an adventure of fun and fellowship. We honor you tonight as you have laid the path to our new beginnings.

Each chapter that is ending
Leads us to a new beginning
The past that we are leaving
Means a future we are winning.

Each change that fills the present
Sets the stage for our tomorrow.
And how we meet each challenge
Helps determine joy or sorrow.

In every new beginning
Spirit plays a vital part.
We must approach tomorrow
With a strong and steady heart.

So as we turn the corner
Let’s all apprehension shed.
And fill our hearts with confidence
As we proceed ahead.

(Incoming president) _______________________________ look deep into your heart as you accept this torch from (outgoing president) _____________________. As you accept the symbol of leadership, may your love and guidance cover this council like a love song, connecting the hopes and dreams of the past with the new ideas and inspirations of today and the visions of tomorrow.

(They will pass the candle – pause while the reading is finished briefly holding the candle together before the past president releases the candle.

_______________________ before you is the light that symbolizes your year as president of the _____________________ State Council. Your sisters will look to you for guidance and love throughout the coming year. The responsibility that will be yours must not be entered into lightly. If you willingly wish to fulfill the duties of this high office with your love and dedication, make the love connection from the past which will lead us into the future.

Then the new president will light her candle as the dialogue instructs her to do. Then the newly elected president will pause as we install the past president as the counselor.)

________________________, before you is the light of your year. It has been a year of accomplishment, joy, and fellowship. As ____________________ passes your light, (The newly elected president will then pass the candle back to the past president) upon your shoulders rests the responsibility to continue the light of your service to our sisterhood. Your abilities to give guidance and assurance will be called upon as counselor of the ___________ State Council. We ask that you continue to help us with a willing heart to grow and to understand the purposes of our organization. We rejoice in your successes and now we ask that you fulfill the responsibility that will insure the successes of our new president and others. If you willingly assume these responsibilities, make the connection of love from our future that bonds us with our past.

(The past president will then light her votive candle on the table with the candle – blow the taper candle out and return to her chair on stage.)

Fence your dreams with contentment, but leave an open door for those who follow, to run free through the wonder and beauty of leadership, and this year that is yet to be.

_______________________, because of your vision, your dedication, your enthusiasm, warmth and love, you stand before your sisters their choice. Please know that in our hearts we wish you every success as you take upon your shoulders the duties of the presidency. We ask that you lean on us for assistance, as we will lean on you for direction. We ask that you know in your heart that as surely as your theme speaks of a love song, you stand as a love song in our hearts tonight.

As each of us re-news the vows of our sisterhood tonight, let us be ever mindful that we stand taller, we stand stronger when we speak as one voice.

Each of us is vital to the whole that is ESA. We need to be aware that our voice, no matter how small, needs to be heard as a part of the whole. Doubts and fears will not be allowed in to silence our “one voice.”

We need all our voices to rise in a chorus in order that ESA can be all that it can be. For every idea and thought must begin with someone and perhaps the most beautiful idea of all is the one still unheard, trapped in silence by the singer afraid to share her song.

(The pianist will begin playing the song “One Voice”. After the song has been sung the conclusion will be given)

What a beautiful clear vision, looking through the eyes of love has given us in ESA. It is a vision of self-worth, acceptance, and immense gratitude, knowing we are better people because of each other and the love we share.

It is a vision of a better world. It is a chance to bring laughter to children, hope to the helpless, and a song of love to the lips of those silenced by despair.

So please, don’t let this feeling end, it may not come again and we must always have our vision by looking through the eyes of love – the eyes of ESA.

Ladies and gentlemen: We proudly present the ___________ (date) officers of the __________ State Council.

Earth's Special Angels
State officer installation with an Angel theme - Written by Coleen Cape for Karen Lowery's installation

(The beginning sentence was composed to match the theme of the outgoing State President whose theme was “ ESA PANDA– momium” with an emphasis on the preservation of the environment - A beginning sentence can be composed to match any theme that is being worked with to match the outgoing state president’s theme. Be creative and change it to meet the current theme.) The animals in the jungle are quiet for now -- the lion is resting and enjoying the sunset while the panda continues to chew on bamboo shoots. If they listen carefully they will hear the tinkle of bells and the flutter of wings of Earth's Special Angels who are about to assume their positions.

Life is full of endings and beginnings; each one is attended by the loving guidance of an angel. When it's time to accept the challenge of a new beginning, we can call on our angels for there is nothing fresher, more inspiring or purer than the faith of an angel. We are all sleeping angels waiting for the dawn. As we face the challenge ahead we will look back and know that all of our future accomplishments will soar to the heavens on the wings of President Helen's example and achievements. Please stand as we once again honor the President _______, escorted by ______________

MUSIC- “We will talk with the Animal” was used to match the theme. Any appropriate music can be used to walk the president into the room.

____________________, the Angel of Harmony. Harmony is the angel of balance. ..balance in life and nature. She is the spirit of awareness. Her wings are strong and feathered like the seagull. She is as iridescent and sparkling as a sunfish, as swift as a sandpiper and as watchful as any animal of nature over her young. Her silent whispers warn us of apathy, remind us of duty and rescue us from indecision. Harmony will ever heighten our sense of responsibility to all of God's gifts. She dances on the oceans' waves. .. Walks with sister moon. .. .is keeper of the tides and. … sings with the whales. She showers us with the gifts of rain, sun and rainbows. Harmony is the angel of balance, keeping mind, body and soul in perfect accord.

With grateful hearts we salute you and thank you for sharing a wonderful year of growth, accomplishments. This evening the time has come for you to take on a different and yet equally important responsibility. You will need to continue to share your wealth of knowledge and expertise with this council. Installation Ceremony with a Friendship Theme
Written by Coleen Cape

Sisters of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and guests we begin this evening with renewed vision for our future and a deep gratitude for our year's accomplishments.

Together, this past year the _____________________________State Council and all of its members shared a year filled with the love and trust of friends. You loved, laughed and cried together. Made new friends and said good-bye to some dear ones. Through it all one thing remained constant, the devotion and dedication of those who stepped forward to lead you so well.

Tonight we celebrate their leadership and accomplishments. It is a time to reflect on past glories and future triumphs. The time to feel a deep sense of pride for the leadership you were wise enough to elect last year. The leadership of any organization is truly a reflection of the values of the membership that elected them. Always feel pride in the accomplishments that are achieved under their watchful eyes. Be forever thankful for the love and laughter. Your hearts were touched with joy and you were blessed, for never again will you gaze upon the beauty of the rose and not remember the love and trust of the friends you found in ESA.

I am proud and honored to introduce the ______ elected officers of the _________ State Council.

Friendship is a Priceless Gift
That cannot be bought or sold,
But its value is far greater
than a mountain made of Gold.
For gold is cold and lifeless,
It can neither see nor hear
And in the time of trouble
It is powerless to cheer-
It has no ears to listen
Nor heart to understand,
It cannot bring you comfort
Or reach out a helping hand.
So when you ask God for a gift
Be thankful If HE sends not diamonds, pearls, or riches
But the Love and Trust of Real True Friends.

Jr. Past President, ___________________ your inspiration and love have led this council throughout the year. By your example of love you showed us the way to a deeper understanding of each other. You led us with care and dignity and in so doing gave us all a greater sense of self worth. Please light your candle from the flame of friendship.

As your year draws to a close and ________________________ assumes the responsibilities of this office we once again call upon you to share your love and trust. We will continue to look to you for wisdom and guidance. If you are willing to accept the responsibility of Junior Past President (and Disaster Fund Chairman) pass the flame of your leadership onto _______________________ and as you light her candle of continued friendship may it symbolize your willingness to continue to guide this council with your wisdom, support and understanding. Fence your dreams with contentment but leave an open gate for those who follow to enter so that they may wonder at the beauty of friendship.

Madame President, _________________________ look deep into your heart as you accept the torch passed to you by ___________________________. As you accept this symbol of your leadership may your love and guidance cover this council and warm it with the gift of your friendship. The love of true friends is a bond that cannot be broken; this year that bond will connect all the hopes and dreams of the past with the ideas and inspiration of the present and the visions of the future.

You have chosen _____________________________________________ as your theme. Friendship is truly life's reward for having the courage to open ourselves up to each other. Life certainly would not be worth living without the unconditional love and unselfish support of friends. And in all the world there can be no better friend than an ESA sister.

__________________________, because of your vision, your dedication, your enthusiasm, warmth and love you stand before your sisters their choice. Please know that in their hearts they wish you every success as you take upon your shoulders the responsibilities of the presidency of the _________________ State Council. Lean on them for assistance as they will lean on you for direction.

A friend is an attitude within you,
A talk you can always continue.
A feeling you have known for a while
A thought that sparks an inner smile
A friend is a person you hold dear,
Who ventures far, yet stays quite near
Whose presence sets the spirit free
Who bring out candor honesty.
A friend is a person you hold dear
Feels triumph with you, knows your fears,
Accepts your strengths and weaknesses too
Won't let small things dull friendship hue.
A friend will walk life's miles with you
And nourish values sound and true
Though paths may sometimes drift apart
True friendship never leaves the heart.

Ladies, Gentleman and honored guests before you stand the newly installed officers of the Wyoming State Council. They have pledge their hearts to you and offered the outstretched hand of friendship. It is an honored gift to offer to share yourself with another. Tonight I ask that you in turn pledge your support, confidence and friendship to do all that you can to make the goals and ideals of this council a reality. No one has ever-expressed friendship as beautifully as Roy Croft in his poem LOVE.

I love you, not for what you are, But for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out.

I love you for putting your hand into my heaped-up heart, and passing over all the foolish and frivolous and weak things which you cannot help dimly seeing there, and for drawing out into the light all the beautiful, radiant belongings, that no one else had looked quite far enough to find.

I love for ignoring the possibilities of the fool and weakling in me, and for laying firm hold on the possibilities of good in me. I love you for closing your eyes to the discords in me, and for adding to the music in me by worshipful listening.

I love your because you are helping me to make of the lumber of my life not a tavern but a temple, and of the words of my every day not a reproach but a song.

I love you because you have done more than any creed could have done to make me good, and more than any fate could have done to make me happy. You have done it just by being yourself. Perhaps that is what being a friend means after all.

PALLAS ATHENE AWARDS CEREMONY BASED ON AN ANGEL THEME
Written by Coleen Cape

There are angels all around us. Everywhere we go, everything we do, is touched by the power of the angel that is guiding us and enlightening our spirits and helping us to realize and then to release the angel inside us.

Angels come in all shapes and all sizes: The neighbor whose wave welcomes you home after a hard days work the child whose laughter can brighten even the darkest moment, the stranger who opens the door or holds the elevator for you when your arms are full. Angels are always with us. An angel is there to comfort you when you cry, an angel is there when you feel relief for an accident that was avoided by that sudden reflex that helped you avoid disaster, and an angel is there beside you when you realize you have the strength to carry on after the loss or a loved one. And an angel is most definitely with us through all joy or life’s blessings.

An angel is with you when you receive praise for a job well done and she is guiding you when you give praise to others. But or all the things an angel is and does, nothing exemplifies or symbolizes the power or angels in our life as much as the love of a friend.

Today/Tonight we honor our sisters and friends and the angel that each of them carries within. We honor them for their noble deeds and unselfish service to others and for being an angel in human form. We are here to thank them and let them know we realize we are blessed to be touched by their heavenly presence and we are proud or their achievements.

FIRST PEARL: (have recipients come forward) Angels do things you thought no one would ever love you enough to do. The qualities that seem heavenly in people are conceived in Heaven. Each time we perceive the beauty in another person, the same chord of feeling is touched in us. The same melody begins to play. In love, there is a great music between beings. Whenever we feel we are seeing someone's soul unmasked, that's the angel in us seeing the angel in them. It's as close as we can be to one another. It is a sacred moment in time. We know we are the same. We know then what it feels like to be an angel.

FIRST DEGREE: (recipients please come forward) The warmth of an angel's light can comfort and illuminate the whole world. To be truly wise and powerful on this earth, we must only allow ourselves to be, and to express freely, the angels that indeed, we already are inside. Our noble and exalted works will follow along with our highest achievements and our rewards. We are all essentially capable of greatness, of genius, of soaring beyond the ordinary .While as human beings we are filled with limitations; the angel inside us knows none. It is unlimited and eternal. Everyone is gifted. The angel within us is our gift.

SECOND DEGREE: (recipients please come forward) Any effort no matter how small, even simply thinking like an angel, is tremendously powerful and could affect the world -your world. The simple vibrations of your loving feelings, your own angel thoughts, can affect others for the better. Send them out into the universe. Someone will feel it somewhere an angel's love is never wasted. There are angels all over the place just waiting to be friends, waiting to be awakened, and waiting for a chance, an opening to love you.

THIRD DEGREE: (recipients please come forward) As angels, we have no fear. No dangers of earth can rise against us. We are creatures of magic and love. When you express your light, your angel will illuminate you. In your wisdom she will speak to you. In your courage she will stand behind you holding stars of victory over your head. In your humility she will serve others through you. If you let the angel within guide you, you can never be misled.

FOURTH DEGREE: (recipients please come forward) Angels help you reclaim your real self and your deepest innermost thoughts and being. What defines you can never be found on the surface of life. Look deep inside yourself for what you need to the perfect, giving, caring wonderful part of you -your inner angel. The fastest way to become an angel is to realize that you are one already.

FIFTH DEGREE: (recipients please come forward) When you let your inner angel show, you help all those who are witness to it; you are the message. They see something special in you. It goes in past their reality, slides into their very souls through the back door silently ...then it will knock from within and speak to them. Pledge your love and devotion to the angel inside you and it becomes yours forever. It will never leave you. You'll find you have the strength of thousands, love enough for millions.

SIXTH DEGREE: (recipients please come forward) Let the angel inside you speak to all people. Be like a raindrop, moisten the dry hearts or many people with your love, and then watch them flower before you into beautiful angels. Always show your light, there is too much darkness in the world already. As you continue your angel work you will sometimes feel rushes of love coursing through you as though millions or angel wings were brushing through your entire body, heart and soul. If you will only listen you will hear your angels cheering you silently on.

To the audience:

If you have never seen an angel, maybe you have been looking in wrong places. Maybe they have been right here before our eyes, somehow, all of the time. Maybe we have simply been to busy to see them. I direct to look and see them now. Our angels or ESA

SERVICE AWARDS
BY JEANNE PARKER, MISSOURI

Please come forward as I call your name (give name and years of service)

Installation Ceremony with a Friendship Theme(Song: "I Love The Pin You Let Me Wear.")
I love the pin you let me wear
I love the Greek that's written there I love the Jonquils yellow hue
I love each thought that speaks of you I love each member of the band
I love the best pin in the land
I'll always wear it over my heart
For I love you Dear ESA.

Yes, these sisters do love the pin they have worn for all these years. The song, "The Jewel Pin,” especially for Epsilon Sigma Alpha in 1943. Therefore, it is fitting that it was sung for our sisters who have served ESA so many years. Between them, it is a total of _______ (number of years served) years. (Adapted from Amanda Bradley)

These are special sisters who have never been too busy- to lend an ear or do a thoughtful deed. They've never been too busy to help solve a problem or speak the words of caring that we need. They understood when changes came along and they have accepted us, whether we were right or wrong. They are all special sisters always there in mind and spirit. And most of all, these sisters are close in heart. Madam President, win you assist me? Please present their bouquets to them.

Receiving her pin is: (Name:__________________________ for ______(number of years - Repeat this for each candidate. When they come forward to receive their pin the President will present them a flower/token of your choice. Give name and ESA history for each person. For example: joined when and where, of what Council, state, etc. ..., any personal facts you wish to include)

You have been presented with Jonquils (or the token of your choice) for remembrance of ESA, and a red rose for love. Love speaks always , but not always in words. Most of the time, love is in deeds and these ladies have served ESA with of you and we thank you for caring. We are glad that we have had the privilege of knowing each of you, and we are glad that your lives have touched ours. You have indeed captured the “spirit”. Congratulations.

SERVICE AWARD- 25 YEARS - ________________(Name(s), for twenty- five years you have been a dear friend. We have shared enough tears to float a ship, had more fun than we are entitled to. We have shared many morning sunrises and appreciated nature to 11 We have traveled many miles and-yes! We have shared many beds, but most of all, we have shared Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Twenty-five years ago, as a young lady from a large metropolitan area. You moved to a very small town. Not having any friends and really not very close neighbors. You were a lonely lady. This is when ESA came into your life. (Any of the individual’s actual history can be used here)

A distant neighbor asked you to go to a sorority meeting with her. Your answer was, "Why not?" Since that first chapter meeting, ESA has become a very important part of your life. (Describe what different members have done during her membership). At the local level, you have participated in more charitable than could ever be counted.

(Detail positions held - For example: You have held every chapter office and most of them several times, held District offices including District Coordinator. You have served your state and held many offices including State President. You can truthfully say you have served ESA to the fullest.

Tonight, we want to pay tribute to you for all your dedication and for the leadership that you have taught and shown to each of us and to the (name of chapter). May you be as successful in the future as you have been in the past, and may you continue to help ESA and (name of chapter) grow.

Since we do not know what the future holds for us, may yours be as rewarding as has been your past, but remember whatever heights and glories you achieve you will always belong to (name of chapter).

Congratulations on a very successful and rewarding 25 years in Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

SERVICE PIN CEREMONY -50 YEARS – ___________________ Little things often change the course of our lives, a sudden impulse of the moment, a decision. a vision of faith by which we live, an invitation. Fifty years ago, an invitation changed the lives of (name of recipient(s), an invitation to join Epsilon Sigma Alpha. For fifty years these two ladies have shared ESA and served ESA with love. They have given us a legacy of love. (Introduce recipients and give their ESA history.)

You are treasures of ESA. Each treasure is of great worth to us: each brings her own gifts or talents of rare beauty. We are thankful for these very special sisters who have served ESA and brought to us, through their own special treasures or gifts--their own precious possessions of excellence.

The precious moments you hold in your hearts are something someone has done for you. You have changed other sister's lives with a touch of the hand, a warn smile, or a telephone call when it was needed, ever so many small things that you have done. You have shared your love and shown someone, you cared.

Remember your initiation or pledge ritual, your jewel pin ceremony, your first State Convention, and your first International Convention? Remember the sisters you've met, the close association with your chapter members? These are precious moments in ESA, which remain in your hearts and minds forever. They have a definite place in our lives. Everyone we meet makes an impression on us and, somehow, changes our lives a little. It has been said that women are like fingers, and they leave a little of themselves on everything they touch. I'm speaking of the inward compassion. The human heart is so designed that it must be filled with something, and this something is hopefully love. Nothing gives greater joy and warmth than love. But to be loved, you must first love. In this love, you have found your precious moments in ESA.

Love is the rope that binds us all together, even as mountain climbers are roped together for safety .If one loses her footing, the others can then support her. So, in the same way, we are supported by the love of our ESA sisters, as we explore the rock paths of our everyday living. This love we call Agape!

Like the sum breaking through the clouds on a wintry day, are the thoughtful, unexpected acts we do to show we care for each other.

As long as you can say, I tried to show how much I care and when my help was needed, I was willing to be there.

As long as you can truly say - That even in the smallest way, you brightened up another's day Your day has been worthwhile. And you have done these things for fifty years for your ESA sisters.

We salute you for your fifty years of love to ESA, and since God's flower of love is the rose, we give to you a rose on your candle. Will you please light your candle, from the candle of ESA, so you can see the light of love as the candle gives of its self? We know you will continue to give of yourselves. We now present you with you fifty year service pins.

May you always feel the warmth of the candle, sunshine, and sisterhood and see the beauty in nature and people. May you always find love by carrying it with you, as you have for the past fifty years. Our love to you and congratulations.

OPENING AND CLOSING FLAG CEREMONY - "POINTS OF LIGHT"
Written by Verneene Forssberg

(Props needed: Candles – Candle holders – Glow Ball that sits on a table if possible – a table to put the candles for their lighting or a candle aubra will work as well. If you can find a military honor guard to bring in the American flag it will be very impressive – if not use the regular people available.)

“Our flag, … born of revolution, symbolizes its original 13 colonies with red and white stripes and a blue canton with 13 stars. These symbolized our desire for freedom as we sought our independence from Great Britain. By tradition we soon began to add a new star as each new state was admitted to the Union. We have grown from 13 to 50 and our stars reflect the small and regular changes of our great nation over the past 200 years. Each new star became a point of light.”

The honor guard will start to move forward to a drum cadence. This can be a recorded cadence or a drum and bugle core and be enlisted to bring the flag forward. A military honor guard can be asked to present the colors. As the flag moves forward motion the audience to stand and begin the next dialogue as it proceeds to the front.)

“But we are more than just stars and stripes, we are Americans. Each and every one of us is also a point of light symbolized in or great flag.”

The honor guard comes forward to the front – turns at the front for the pledge of allegiance to be said.

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

The Star Spangled Banner will then be sung as the military honor guard continues to stand at attention until the song has ended. The military honor guard will then post the flag and retire to the back of the room in military fashion to a cadence. The dialogue will then continue with a poem “What is an American by Horold W. Ruapp:

What is an American?

An American … is one who believes in the rights of men and women of whatever creed, class, color or ancestry to live as human beings with the dignity of becoming children of God.

An American … is one who believes in the right to be free not only from the crushing coercions of dictatorships and regimentation, but free for the way of live where man may think and speak as they choose and worship God as they see fit.

An American … is one who believes in the right to vote, the right to work, the right to learn, the right to live and, what is equally important, in the right to be different; for we know that if we ever lose the right to be different we lose the right to be free.

An American … is one who believes in democracy, not only for ourselves, but for all our fellow Americans. By democracy we mean not simply the rule of the majority, but the rights of the minorities; and those minorities have rights, not because they are minorities, but because they are human beings.

An American … is one who believes in the responsibilities of privilege. What we ask for ourselves, we are willing to grant to others; what we demand for others, we are willing to give to ourselves. An American’s creed is not alone, “live and let live, but live and help live.”

The people who carried the flags for this ceremony were the Kansas Past President’s auxiliary called the Lamplighters. Introduce the Kansas Flag carried by someone, flanked by a two person honor guard carrying long taper candles. (longest available candles) The Kansas flag will be posted to the right of the podium where the person will continue to stand by the flag and the two honor guard will stop at a candle holder positioned in front of the podium on a table place the candles and light them. If it works better candles can already be positioned up front and the honor guard can light their candle when they arrive at the front. The dialogue will have to be altered to meet the description of your state flag.

“Presenting the _____________ (state) colors today are _______________________, _________________________, and __________________________________

Kansas, land of Ahs, oh, what a bright star you have been for this great nation! From the farmlands to our cities, you fill our hearts with pride and your beauty can not be denied.

The golden wheat fields, the industry of our state, nestled under the stars, promise life to all who harvest here. Your personality is so diverse; we never know what is in store: will it be a gentle prairie breeze moving across the plains, or the sounds of an approaching storm? When at last your rains enrich us and the fragrance of fresh due surrounds our life, we look and it never fails us, there is a rainbow with new promise of life. There are fatted cattle dotting the land and wildlife and fish filling our streams. Truly this land we call our home is blessed with many points of light!

Our state motto is cluster amidst 34 stars on our flag. “Ad Astra Per Aspera”, it says – to the stars through difficulty,” it means. How very appropriate for this shining point of light!

If your state honors the flag of the IC Representative this is where you would place the honor for this flag. Once again the flag is brought forward with three honor guard. The flag would be posted by one who continues to stand by the flag – the other two would light their candles at the front of the podium representing the Points of light. The dialogue continues:

“Presenting the South Dakota colors today are ___________________, ______________________________________, and ___________________________________.

We are proud to honor South Dakota, the state of our International Council Representative, __________. On a field of blue we see the blazing sun as South Dakota proudly speaks of her heritage. We are the “Sunshine State,” says the message loud and clear. We know it is the sun that is our greatest star. It is the sun, our strongest star that spreads its light upon us daily. Without its presence no life upon the earth would or could exist. Its energy, its power, its presence is our shinning star in the heavens. It is a point of light that gives us life.

South Dakota prairies are filled this time of year with the American Pasque flower – as her state flower and the first to bloom at Easter time how appropriate that it is accompanied with the motto, “I lead.”

Yes, what is it to be an American, but to become a shinning point of light. An American is one who acts from faith in others; from understanding, no prejudices; from goodwill, not hatred. To bigotry we give no sanction; to intolerance no support.

The true American never asks, “Are you a protestant, or Catholic, Gentile or Jew, white or colored, but are you an American? If you are, then give me your hand, for I am an American too.

The song “Proud to be an American” by Randy Travis will be sung. After the song concludes the next set of three will present the All Faiths flag. The one carrying the flag will post it and stay by the flag while the other two will light their candles in the front.

Presenting the flag of all faiths will be _________________________________, ___________________________________, and ______________________________________.

Symbolic of the brotherhood of mankind, we honor today the flag of all faiths. The ESA Flag of all Faiths is symbolic of all our faiths, without regard to denomination, creed or sect. The green represents the spiritual growth in our lives, while the white dove of peace serves as a reminder to keep within our hearts, a prayer for peace and love throughout the world. The international circle represents all ESA women who have joined hands across the seas, working together in harmony and friendship. May this symbol, representing one of the four great freedoms, freedom of religion, give us continued strength, courage and faith to serve mankind and one another.

Brotherhood – by Grace Noll Crowell

Brotherhood … one simple singing word. A word that pictures mankind linked with God. We say it over and our hearts are stirred. We view the pathway that our feet have trod, and we know we somehow missed the way, when men have fought mad wars, time and time again.

A brotherhood of nations … every land freed from dark suspicion, doubt and greed. Opening their doors with fearless hand to meet a neighboring people’s desperate need … how beautiful it is to contemplate! Let us work for it before it is too late.

The brotherhood of man … oh, strives for it that wars and their wild rumors all may cease! It will be as if a lifted torch was lit, and a bewildered world at last will find its peace. All this will be if mankind will only unite in universal brotherhood.

The ESA International Flag will be posted by the State President flanked by two other past presidents. Two more candles will be lit. The President of the state will stay by the flag and be in a position to be introduced and begin the meeting at the conclusion of the flag ceremony.

Presenting the flag of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International is our State President, ______________________,__________________ And _______________________________

I am Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, the heritage of you all. I am the flag of blue and gold. I pay tribute to the handclasp. I pay tribute to the open book unfolding a wreath of knowledge. I pay tribute to the candles of the crest, and our compassion for others. I shall ever wave for ESA, symbolizing our rich heritage of love and sisterhood.

It is fitting that our state president carries the flag of our organization today as she has been our star, our shinning point of light this year. She has challenged all of us to become a point of light for others. She has asked us to reach out and gather in a handful of stardust and spread its light to others. She has asked no more than she was willing go give, and we were inspired by her leadership.

The song “Points of Light” by Randy Travis will be sung or played at this time. The room will be darkened completely except for the candles up front. A glow ball will be turned on throughout the song throwing points of light all over the room. There are table models that can be used for this purpose. When the song ends the lights will be turned back up and the dialogue will continue:

Let’s us pray: Eternal Father, accept our praise and gratitude for having given us this opportunity to assemble once again. Hear us as we pray for a freshness of spirit to renew our faiths and brighten our hopes. Create new warmth between members of our sorority that we may go about our work – not head first but heart first. In an atmosphere of team spirit, grant us, Oh God, patience, understanding, and wisdom in decisions to be made.

Be with our President as she guides us throughout this convention. May our lives be enriched as we join together for the work that is ours. Grant us a willing minds and ready hands that we may band together and use these days sincerely and wisely for the good of all mankind. Help us to continue to be a point of light for this great nation. All this we asked in thy Holy and precious name. Amen.

The Lamplighters may retire from the podium and take their seats. (The people standing beside the flags will return to their seats on the front row with the other honor guard people. Our state president’s theme this particular year was “ESA - Super Star” So this final introduction can be adapted to any State President’s theme. At this point the President will open the convention meetings.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Sisters and guests, the Lamplighters of the Kansas State Council are very pleased to introduce to you our shinning point of light, our Super Star, the President of the Kansas State Council, __________________________________.

Closing Flag Ceremony for the “Points of Light Ceremony”

The flags are retired on Sunday or at the conclusion of the state convention and a brief closing ceremony is used to remove the flags from the podium area. The Lamplighters were used in this original ceremony but anyone can be used by the person responsible for the Flag ceremony. They will come forward at the person who is responsible for retiring the flags takes her place at the podium. Every time they hear the words “I believe” they were instructed that the next flag would start to leave the room. The song “Points of Light” at a low sound so as not to drown out the words will be played the entire time.

Will you please stand as we honor our retiring flags (The American Flag will leave the room first) I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As we prepare to go our separate ways, let us renew our vows of sisterhood, making us mindful that we stand taller and we stand stronger when we speak as one voice.

(The Kansas Flag will be carried out) I believe we need all our voices to raise in a chorus in order that ESA can be all that it can be. For every idea and thought must begin with someone and perhaps the most beautiful idea of all is one still unheard, trapped in silence.

(The South Dakota Flag will be carried out) I believe in the beautiful clear vision, that looking through the eyes of love has given ESA. It is the vision of self-worth, acceptance, and immense gratitude, knowing we are better people because of each other and the love we share as sisters.

(The All-Faiths Flag will be carried out) I believe that through our strength we will climb to new heights. As we stand for compassion and spiritual wisdom we will draw great strength.

(The ESA Flag will be carried out of the room) I believe in the vision of a better world. I believe in a chance to bring laughter to children; hope to the oppressed, and a song to lips of those silenced by despair.

And now my sisters,
May you find sincerity in sun and shadow.
May you bend with the winds of adversity, yet never break.
May you grow through all of the seasons of your life in dignity and grace.
May you reach ever upward toward the stars!

The Colors We Make--Reflections of ESA

Sisters, tonight we are gathered to install the officers of Eta Theta Chapter of ESA for the coming year. As we prepare to for this new year, I would ask you to think for a moment about a mirror--a neutral looking glass that reflects back whoever you are, whatever you are. To see something in the mirror of life, you must first have it’s presence in your life. What you are and do will reflect to others. If you are sad, the world will echo your dejection. District Installation of officers Ceremony
An adaptation of “Earth’s Special Angels”- Written by Coleen Cape
Adapted by Verneene Forssberg

An installation is a solemn occasions, solemn with the acceptance of serious and important duties to be shouldered by our District. But it is likewise a gay and happy event — bright with memories of past work well done, friendships made, growing, and reuniting.

__________ (past District Chairman) today we would like to honor you for your leadership of District ____ this year. We celebrate our work and time together and the sisters of District ___ want you to know how much your time and effort has been appreciated. I would ask that you come forward to light the torch of leadership so it can be passed. You will serve this District as an advisor for the coming year. The Angel of Grace will symbolize your mission. Grace guides us with a calm and reassuring voice. Her wings are small and feminine, yet strong and always resilient. Her energy is transmitted with the speed of light to those in need of guidance and support. Her halo is bright, to provide a beacon to all those in need. She is a lighthouse to all those lost and searching through the storm of life. Protection and assistance are the chief responsibility of Grace. Grace whispers to us to remind us of all the love that has gone before and of our responsibility to leave our own legacy of love for those who follow.

Life is full of endings and beginnings; each one is attended by the loving guidance of an angel. When it’s time to accept the challenge of a new beginning, we can call on our angels for there is nothing fresher, more inspiring or purer than the faith of an angel. We are all sleeping angels waiting for the dawn. As we face the challenge ahead we will look back and know that all of our future accomplishments will soar to the heavens on the wings of our achievement.

At this time I would like to ask that the newly elected officers for the coming year come forward.

__________________, the Angel of Harmony symbolized your office of District E Chairman. Harmony is the angel of balance in life and nature. She is the spirit of awareness. Her wings are strong and feathered like the seagull. She is as iridescent and sparkling as a sunfish, as swift as a sandpiper and as watchful as any animal of nature over her young. Her silent whispers warn us of apathy, remind us of duty, and rescue us from indecision. Harmony will ever heighten our sense of responsibility to all of God’s gifts. She dances on the oceans’ waves, walks with sister moon...is keeper of the tides. She showers us with the gifts of sun, rain, and rainbows. Harmony is the angel of balance, keeping mind, body and soul in perfect accord.

_________________the Angel of Friendship symbolizes your office of ___________________ Secretary. The angel of friendship is found wherever there is a potential for the linking of souls in love and mutual caring. She carries a pouch of silver and golden thread for weaving together the lives of those with kindred spirits and common hearts. Her wings are the largest of all the angels for she needs to make room to accept within their gossamer folds, all who come to her. She is the angel of the human heart. Of all the gifts of love, and there are more than we mortals can begin to know. The greatest gift bestowed by the angels is Friendship. Whenever an angel has given you this gift, you are then in turn to give it to someone else. ... Each time this gift of friendship changes hands, another angel is born.

________________, the Angel of Peace symbolizes your office as _____________________________ Co-chairman --the angel of peace inspires selfless acts of sharing, generosity and kindness. She guides us to reach out to all of mankind through mutual love and understanding. She whispers acceptance and understanding into our ears as we hurry about our lives and urges us to slow down and heighten our awareness of the needs of those around us This angel’s inspiration can restore integrity, righteousness and humility to a world self-possessed As human beings there dye often anchors tied to our feet but believe in angels and you can fly despite any earthly bounds Angels give joy to those in despair, comfort the troubled and grant place to those who but ask for it with a sincere heart. We should ask for peace and then accept it when the angel of peace enfolds us in her wings.

__________________the Angel of Trust symbolizes your office as _____________________ Treasurer. Trust is the essence of all angels, that which we hold onto in darkness. In the light of trust, all shadows dissolve and only the truth remains. When we come out of the shadows, our spirits will rise again, not needing the bonds of earth and air, but free to float to the clouds where dreams come true. Trust, pure and simple frees us to love. That love moves us to believe that all vision, thought and deed will be carried to the heavens ... when carried on the wings of trust.

_______________, the Angel of Faith symbolizes your office as ___________________ Auditor. Acceptance and peace arrive on the wings of Faith. She is pure light and brilliance floods the heart, mind and soul. She is the angel of beauty; she always holds out a reassuring hand and whispers to us of compassion and gentleness Fear cannot stand against Faith-- her light overpowers the darkness. She takes changes of what some cannot see and what others cannot even imagines, and triumphs. Faith will sustain you in doubt. In danger she will guard you, when troubled she will give you peace, and when your spirit finds its freedom, she will always fly with you.

Turn to the Audience and ask them to stand.

_____________ Sisters you symbolize Angels of Hope! Hope is the nomad angel, moving with grace an4 patience from place to place. Her aura is golden and warm. Her presence is with us always and nurtures the human spirit. Hope watches over all of her charges with loving attention. She whispers to everyone to open their hearts and to share their talents and treasures with their fellow human beings. Hope is the angel of encouragement. Because of Hope - 1ives are changed. The world becomes a little brighter and there in hope. With hope we know the light will never leave us - it can’t - we only shut it out of sight until we open our hearts to find it once again.

Newly installed officers of _______________________, this year as you go about your duties, you will share many tasks of love, and giving of gifts of the heart. Aiming at higher goals will demand your best since we have many challenges in ESA to deal with in our future. So make the best of this honor we bestow upon you today. Spread your wings, embrace the power, and free your spirit to lead this council with wisdom, fairness, and love.

Joan Bourn - Chapter Installation
“ETA PHI . . . WARM LOVING HEARTS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE”

We are gathered her tonight to install the newly elected officers of Eta Phi for 2007-2008. Would Ann, Charlotte, Charmaine, Heide and Becky please come forward?

President Ann, thank you for your leadership this past year as Eta Phi’s President. You led us on a journey with your theme….Eta Phi… A Beacon in the Community. We once again look forward to your leadership in the coming year. As President you will lead the chapter with your heart and will have the responsibility of guiding and representing Eta Phi at ESA meetings, District meetings, State meetings and convention. You will open your heart to your members and to the community with all your endeavors and we will likewise look to you again for your strength, energy, and leadership qualities. If you are willing to serve this office with dignity and to the best of your ability, please say “I will.”

The Flower of the Heart

A flower from thee is blooming upon the table there
Its lovely fragrance wafts to us upon the silent air.

And though it’s lovely to our eyes, it never can compare
To that which blooms within our hearts, our friendships true and fair.

True friendship is a jewel rare, a treasure from above;
Our Eta Phi hearts will hold it dear, in mutual trust and love.

Vice President Charlotte, as incoming Vice President of Eta Phi, you will be a song in the hearts of your sisters. During your year as Vice President you will support and assist the President in the performance of her duties, and in her absence, direct the business of the chapter. In the event the President is unable to continue her duties as President, you will assume that position. Your heart must be full of enthusiasm as you inform new members of our ideals and the purpose of ESA. If you are willing to fulfill these duties, please accept the bouquet of flowers from Ann and say “I am”. “Trust your heart – it is your personal wellspring of beauty and truth”

Secretary Charmaine, ESA is like an exciting book and every year begins a new chapter. You will record the history of the coming year for Eta Phi. Your minutes will be a detailed record of the work of Eta Phi, how it was accomplished and keep the membership informed of the business at hand. Performing your duties as Secretary will give Eta Phi the feeling of security that all minutes of the meetings and correspondence will be properly and accurately handled. If you are willing to accept your office, please accept your bouquet of flowers from Ann and say “I am”.

“I have many friends who are richly blessed with talents worlds apart, yet each somehow wisely understands the special longings of my heart”

Treasurer Heide, to no office comes a more definite and tangible responsibility than to the office of Treasurer. Your careful handling of Eta Phi’s funds provides the members of the chapter with the confidence that the financial business of the chapter is handled in a prompt and professional manner, and that the members receive a true and accurate accounting of the funds received and disbursed. If you are willing to accept this office, please state “I am” and accept your bouquet of flowers from Ann.

“The blessed ties of friendship that we share in Eta Phi,
is a mutual tie that binds our kindred hearts and minds.”

Educational Director Becky, Eta Phi has chosen you as their Educational Director, and that is indeed an honor and a challenge. You will have the opportunity to plan and guide the educational activity of Eta Phi from your heart. Planning programs is an art that requires a well established sense of planning. If you are willing to accept your office, please say “I am” and accept your bouquet from Ann.

“It’s the glad “hello” and the handclasp tue, and the smile of joy on a friendly face, and
we’ll keep on smiling along the way because our hearts are warmed with love and grace.”

Ann, you have standing with you tonight a special group of friends and sisters, each with warm hearts full of love and talent, and willing to serve you and the membership. Remember that each of your sisters has something very special to offer to you and this chapter.

Sisters of Eta Phi, your officers for 2007-2008 have been duly installed. Do you, as members of Eta Phi Chapter #3013, accept these individuals as officers for the 2007-2008 year and, by doing so, also agree to support and assist them in the performance of their duties? If so, answer “We do from the heart”…..

The Best of Gifts

The best of gifts aren’t always hid in gold or wrappings gay
But in the heart of some dear friend, who loves you from day to day
For gifts are just an outward sign of love that dwells within,
To cheer and bless and strengthen ties of love for her or him.
It might be helpful gifts of food, a cheery word or smile
But all that’s done with loving hearts is treasured and worthwhile.
The gift may cost as much or less as a giver wants to spend
But priceless gifts are loving hearts of kind and thoughtful friends.

written by Joan Bourn for Coleen Cape's IC President Installation

This Life is Yours – Embrace it and Free Your Spirit!!
This life is yours - Believe in yourself
Embrace the power to choose what you want to do and do it well
Embrace the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly
Embrace the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature
Embrace the power To control your own life - no one else can do it for you
Nothing is too good for you - You deserve the best
Embrace the power To make your life healthy, exciting, worthwhile And very happy
Embrace the power to create your own dreams
Free your spirit And make them come true!!

“Wind Beneath My Wings” Performed by Michelle Cape (Coleen’s daughter-in-law) - Accompanist – Charmaine Nichols

This is a special tribute to honor Verneene Forssberg, Corresponding Secretary, and special friend, for all the work she has already done and for all the work she will do in the coming year for Coleen.

It is our great pleasure and honor that we now introduce the newly elected 2004-2005 International Council Officers of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, during this, our 75th Birthday Celebration and Diamond Jubilee.

Coleen has requested that she wanted something a bit different this year and we will attempt to honor her wishes. You will all find yourselves in the midst of her many friends that she has made over the years in ESA. So, if you happen to have pearls and diamonds on your table, then you are the special sisters and friends that she is honoring. Nothing speaks more perfectly to undying and perfect love in the way a pearl and a diamond speaks…. And now that you have discovered that you and only you have those specials gems at your table, you will know that she considers you all to be her dear and true friends and she is honored to have you all in her honor guard. It is important that you all realize and feel the message of her theme “Embrace the Power – Free Your Spirit.” If you truly understand and act on the power that is within you then all of your combined spirits and powers will and can make a difference in your lives and in ESA.

With all that said, will those of you in her honor guard, please stand, as we introduce and welcome your 2004-2005 IC President, Coleen Cape, escorted by her husband Ira. Thank you, Ira, for sharing Coleen with us.

Madame President, Coleen – these words are special just for you.

“When you call on us, we get wings to fly.
When you look at us, we can touch the sky, and we get wings to fly……
When you bless the day, we’re so glad that
We’re alive and have wings to fly…
You have filled us with your love, you have made us women on clouds above.
We couldn’t get much higher as our spirits take flight knowing we’re alive.
We will be the ones standing by you through the good
and through the trying times and together our spirits will take flight
and we’ll have wings to fly –
“Embrace the Power that is within you and your sisters
and Free our Spirits” –so that we can fly and we can make a difference!

As acceptance of your office, please accept this token of our love – from our hearts to yours. We look forward to the coming year as you lead Epsilon Sigma Alpha on a journey of love, power, and the freedom to take flight and free our spirits to do all that you ask of us.

Please stand as we honor Rosalie Griffith, Junior Past President, escorted by by her husband, Lester

We invite you to listen to the words of the song that Coleen has chosen just for you…

“Angels Among Us” - Performed by Michelle Cape - If An Angel…..

If an angel is someone so filled with love,
It’s a gift that they constantly share.
If an angel is someone who looks out for others, then
She gives them a nudge here and there
If an angel is someone who touches your life
With a heart that’s both joyful and wise,
Then even though your halo and wings are about to be retired
You’re still an angel to us in human disguise.

As Jr. Past President, Coleen and her Board will continue to look to you for guidance and strength as you use your power and embrace all that you have learned and share this knowledge and power with the new board. Within you was a spirit capable of touching the stars and achieving your goals. If you are willing to accept the challenge of Disaster Fund Chair that the coming year has in store for you, then accept this token of love from Coleen’s heart to yours. Thank you Rosalie for a great year – you truly “Reached for Your Star” and found it and then shared it with all of us.

Madame Workshop Coordinator – Judy Huntley, escorted by Bob Becker

Madame Parliamentarian – Jamie Atchison escorted by Dennis Bingheim

Coleen is challenging you to embrace the power – love what you want in life and love it honestly, and by doing so, you will be able to accept this office and pledge to state impartial views with courage, for then something of great worth will emerge and be added to the common good. Keep before you the fact that “essential things have great power to touch the heart”. And so in acknowledging her challenge please accept this gift of love from her heart to yours.

Madame Treasurer – Bertha Warner escorted by Wendy Burkard

Talk about power - the job of Treasurer certainly has power…..however, with that power comes honesty, trust, and responsibility – for no office is held more accountable than the one you have been elected to this week. Even though your job is a demanding one, we know that you will embrace the tasks before you with a spirit of pride and love in a job well done. If you are willing to take on the power that is at hand with honesty and trust, then accept this token of love from Coleen’s heart to yours.

Madame Corresponding Secretary – Verneene Forssberg escorted by her husband Norman

Oh boy, what can we say about this gal – there are not enough words in the English language to tell you everything WE know about Verneene. But what we do know and can actually share is that she is a wonderful and faithful friend to Coleen and is honored to accept the power that we know she loves to help her friend this coming year. Wow, what a formidable task awaits you. Your spirit will be undaunted and your power to accept the challenge that lies before you will be one of mutual respect and admiration for your friend. We know how proud you are of her and how much you have looked forward to this moment. You are, without a doubt, the “Wind Beneath Her Wings” – Please take a moment to share this time with your friend, as you accept this token of love from Coleen’s heart to yours.

Madame Recording Secretary – Rhea Weaver escorted by her husband Roger

You have the power of the pen and the written word. Embrace this power and make your words a written legacy of this coming year in ESA. Truth and accuracy are important in creating the ideals that guide us toward a better tomorrow. May the power on your tape recorder and your computer stay on, in order for you to fulfill the duties that are bestowed on you this evening. May you be guided by your heart and in so doing accept this token of love from Coleen’s heart to yours.

>Madame 2nd Vice President – Brenda West escorted by her husband Wilbur

Just what is the intangible power of the heart – it is the heart that leads the journey! You will be on a journey this year as your work with the Arizona council to plan and coordinate next year’s convention. You will acknowledge the heart’s magical and magnificent ability to ignite within yourself and your Arizona sisters a powerful torch – you will embrace that power and plan a grand and glorious week for all of us to share. As the International Council General Convention Chair, you will embrace the power so that the memories we take away from our annual meeting will live on in our hearts forever. Please accept this token of love from Coleen’s heart to yours.

Madame 1st Vice President – Judi King escorted by her husband Jim

Judi, you will stand at the right hand of your President – Coleen. She has challenged all of her officers to “Embrace the Power and Free Your Spirit.” Your spirit is now free to begin the task of seeking out and developing the power of your sisters to encourage them in areas of leadership – reminding them that you and they can embrace the power…..take control of your own lives….no one else can do it for you….nothing is too good for you…..you all deserve the best to create your own dreams and make them come true. It is only with the heart that one can see, discover, transform and expand its capacity to love. Such insight comes in those defining moments when the heart is open…..please accept this token of love from Coleen’s heart to yours.

At this time Coleen and Verneene will leave the stage and present their Kansas sisters with a token of their love, support and appreciation for the many years of dedication and service and for their undying love that they have shown to Coleen – we know how proud Kansas is of Coleen and how proud she is of all of you.

We invite you to enjoy the music as performed by Coleen’s son, Alex Cape, as he sings….. “One Friend” - Performed by Alex Cape

To Coleen: Have you ever wondered what makes you so special? Well, it’s not only the charm in your smile or the love in your eyes It is your inner strength that we admire the most You seem to be so confident and yet you never boast, You just have a quiet affirmation of self and self-worth I know you were born to be an achiever of many great things So let today be a marker, welcome the new dawn For soon the sun will rise and you’ll be proven most wise. Blessing after blessing will fill you to overflowing. Soar on eagle’s wings, let the wind be your guide Knowing that someone up there will give you a place to hide, a home a refuge in Him you will find In His unfailing love you will not be denied. Let your spirit run free and embrace the power that is within you.

Congratulations to the newly installed officers!!!

As a special tribute to her Board, her family, her Kansas ESA Sisters, and all of you, we once again invite you to listen to the music of Alex Cape as he sings …. “It’s Your Song” - Performed by Alex Cape

Free Your Spirit!!
This life is yours - Believe in yourself

and be a part of nature
Embrace the power
To control your own life

To make your life healthy, exciting, worthwhile
And very happy

A Tribute to our Flag
Submitted by Bob Thompson, Retired Military Veteran, Panama City, Florida

I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.

Look up and see me.
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
My colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected - and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France,
in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy.
Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I'm presently in the mountains of Afganistan and the hot
and dusty deserts of Iraq and wherever freedom is needed.
I led my troops, I was dirty, battleworn and tired,
But my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have
helped set free. It does not hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of my country.
And when it's done by those Whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers
of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,

When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent
at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
I am proud.

Memorial Ceremony for a Kansas Lamplighter
by Verneene Forssberg

Depending upon the arrangements for the Memorial service – a picture of the decedent will be placed on a table at the front of the room if there is no casket. Beside the picture a Celebration of life candle will be placed with appropriate table cloth & decorations. The decorations can take the character of the deceased – perhaps indicative of her theme when president if such is available. If her banner is available it could be placed as an appropriate display for the ceremony.

Each Sister/member present will be given a flower (fresh or silk) to be place in a vase or upon the casket or table at the appropriate time when they are asked to come forward.

ESA Members and guests we gather here today to celebrate the life of a Lamplighter and our departed sister, ______. Special Friendships touch us all and when it comes our time to depart we call upon these friendships to celebrate our lives. (Someone close to the deceased should be asked to light the celebration candle) We are asking _______ to come forward to light ______’s memorial candle as we begin our celebration of life. As a Lamplighter, ____________ has given a full measure of her love and support to our organization and now as she departs on her final journey we gather to honor her earthly memory.

Today our hearts are heavy with grief and loss, but our memories are filled with the joy and the happiness of the time we have spent with _______. In our hearts she lives on and we know that our time will come to see her once again, and her life is what we celebrate today.

___________’s place here on earth can never be filled, but the memory of our association with her will ever be an inspiration to all she touched. _________ will live on through us.

(Music: “My Heart will go on” by Celine Deon.)

As a leader in ESA, ____’s theme for the year she served as our president in __________ (date) was: “______________________________________________________.” Her dedicated leadership to our organization touched the lives of many of us.

(Here we need to give a brief personalized description of how her leadership impacted her sisters in ESA – in her own personal way. (OR) There could also be testimonials from the members in attendance with wonderful memories of the deceased.)

___________’s life was well lived and we are grateful that she shared it and her leadership with ESA. Her friendship was a priceless gift to those she touched and to Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

(Here we can insert the obituary)

Whatever else is lost among the years, God still abides and her memory will remain bright and shining through our tears. Today we honor a builder, an inspiration, and most of all the friend and joy of our hearts. Will you please come forward to present your final symbol of love to our departed sister and say your farewell?

(ESA members will come forward to place their flowers upon the designated location (table where the picture is located or upon the casket). Music will be play while all place their rose and return to their seats. The music selection could be a favorite of the deceased Lamplighter or something that is current and appropriate. When all have placed their flower and the music has ended the ceremony will conclude.)

_________ gave to the fullest of her life and capacity. Her faith and courage remind us that we shall never be so blind that our small world is all we see or so supremely satisfied that all we are is all we want to be. God grant us the joy of filling someone’s needs. Make of us gracious followers if we aren’t meant to lead, and more than all, we pray to remember that there are always new frontiers.

Let us stand and repeat the closing ritual for __________, our departed sister, one final time.

(All will stand and repeat the closing ritual)

“Eternal Father, master of all good works, guide and direct us that we may remain steadfast in our hearts and faithful to our pledge. May we be reminded that graciousness poise and friendliness are our goals; and as we go our separate ways to ever hold aloft the ray from the lamp of learning that those who follow may be guided by its light.”

As we depart today may we rejoice and celebrate the life of our departed sister. Help us to remember that our tears are not forever, and that death is not eternal. May we be grateful for and find comfort in each other and in our fond memories of _________________ now and in years to come. When our turn to answer God’s call comes, we take comfort in the knowledge that we will one day meet again.

Opening Flag Ceremony - ESA Kansas State Convention
Olathe, Ks. - April 30, 2010
Written by Denise Masterson – 2009 Lamplighter President

Madame President, ladies, gentlemen, sisters and guests welcome. We have come together this weekend to enjoy and taste and share our President, Pat Josey’s theme “ESA…. The Sweet Life”. President Pat has encouraged us to reach out and show our love thru all of life’s challenges. She challenged us to help those who are less fortunate, and for us to share all of life’s flavors.

I would like for all of us to remember why we are proud to be an American, where we know we are free. To show there is no doubt that we love this land from sea to shining sea. Please rise as we honor the Flag of the United States of America carried today by Linda Schmidt, and escorted by Shelah Goyer.

The flag folding ceremony represents the same religious principles on which our country was originally founded. The portion of the flag-denoting honor is canton of blue containing the stars representing the states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted when draped as a pall on a casket of a veteran who has served our country in uniform.

In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation’s honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body.

Joy Thornbrugh will you join me on stage for the folding of the flag.
The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.

The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world.

The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for his divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur: Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong”.

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered in to the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day and to honor mother, for whom it flies on mother’s day. The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and woman who have made this country great has been molded.

The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.

The thirteenth fold – for when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our nation’s motto “In God We Trust”. In the folding, the red and white stripes are finally wrapped into the blue, as the light of day vanishes into the darkness of night. I found a story written by Mike Dalka called “A Lesson for Americans”.

My Grandfather was a glider infantryman in WWII, an advisor in Korea, and lost one of his sons, my uncle Gary Edwards, in Vietnam. I worked in his auto repair station during high school and he flew his flag in front daily. One day while I was sweeping the oil dry out of the bays it began to sprinkle rain. He told me to go get the flag and I said “gimme a second.” He said, “It is raining, go get the flag NOW.” Well I popped off my mouth about how he should cool it; it isn’t going to melt or some such typical teenage comment.

My grandfather is the toughest man I’ve ever met. He explained once that he thought basic training was some sort of country club during WWII, because he was used to hard work anyway, and at home he didn’t have indoor toilets or hot running water! And when I said whatever it was that I said to him, he turned deep crimson and I thought, “God save me, he’s going to kill me for talking back.” Instead tears welled up in his eyes and he squeaked out “You don’t understand what this family paid for the right to fly that flag.” Then he turned his back on me and went out and got the flag. I just stood there feeling like the smallest person to ever live. Those words cut me so deep. I wish the entire country could have heard them. I hope that this Nation might yet have enough people who understand the cost of liberty to turn things around.

Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance: I pledge allegiance, to the Flag, of the United State of America, And to the Republic, for which it stands, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All.

POST FLAG - Lee Greenwood’s - God Bless the USA - PLEASE BE SEATED

The official flag of Kansas is being carried by Shirley Campbell and escorted by Susan White. It is represented by a dark-blue silk rectangle arranged horizontally with the state seal aligned in the center. The state seal centered on the flag tells the history of Kansas and his figures representing pioneer life. The seal contains: A landscape with a rising sun (the east) – A river and steamboat for commerce – Settler’s cabin and a man plowing a field for agriculture – Wagon train heading west for American expansion – Indians hunting American Bison and a cluster of 34 stars to identify Kansas as the 34th state to be accepted into the Union. The state motto also appears on the flag “Ad Astra per Aspera” – Latin for “To the Stars through Difficulties”.

Our guest this weekend is Margene Holtz, our IC Representative, escorted by Susan Winter. Margene is proudly carrying the Flag of the State of Nebraska. On the flag is the Great Seal of the State of Nebraska which was adopted in 1867. A train steams across the background, with mountains in the distance. A steamboat plies the waters of the Missouri River. A simple cabin and sheaves of harvested wheat portray the importance of settlers and agriculture. A blacksmith works at his anvil in the foreground. At the top of the seal a banner holds the motto “Equality Before the Law”, and around the outer ring of the seal contain the text “Great Seal of the State of Nebraska, March 1st, 1867. A bill was introduced that required the Secretary of State to procure a seal. A sum of twenty-five dollars was appropriated to enable the Secretary of State to carry out the act and the bill was signed into law by Governor Butler on June 15, 1867. The same seal that was purchased in 1867, played a key role in the moving of the Capitol from Omaha to Lincoln the next year, and is till in use today.

Sergeant 1st Class Steve Toth writes, “A big thanks from all of us in Alpha Co. for all that y”all do. In ESA, we touch the lives of others while changing our own. I would like to share a poem written by Linda Kugele entitled “ESA”.

ESA is an angel friend you’ll find When you explore,
Through knowledge and experience What lies behind life’s door.
ESA will lead you from the darkness Moving toward the light,
By teaching you to find the wrong And turn it into right.
For each of us to everyone just like A simple flower,
Becomes a living sample of the Beauty of God’s power.
ESA’s universal song for Humankind is true.
You must do unto others what you Wish done unto you.

With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly. St. Jude is a place where many doctors send some of their sickest patients and toughest cases. A place where cutting-edge research and revolutionary discoveries happen every day.

Over the years, countless Goodwill leaders have traveled the world spreading this vision, resulting in a number of international Goodwill-affiliated agencies.

May 1, 2010 -Olathe Holiday Inn - Olathe, Kansas
Kansas State Council of
Epsilon Sigma Alpha International
Installation of Officers - “Let Your Life Speak”
Installing Officers: Coleen Cape and Joy Thornbrugh
Soloists: Alex and Michelle Cape

Please turn off all cell phones at this time – There will be no photography allowed during the installation – You will be afforded ample time at the end of the ceremony.

Sisters, Friends, Family and Honored Guests– we begin this evening with renewed vision for our future as your 2010-2011 Kansas State President, Kim challenges each of you to “Let Your Life Speak” through your thoughts, actions and deeds. But even as we look to the future, we cannot imagine not taking the time to also reflect with gratitude and appreciation on all of the past years’ accomplishments.

Together, this past year the Kansas State Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and all of its members shared a year filled with vision and imagination. We loved, laughed and cried together. Made new friends and said good-bye to some dear ones. Through it all one thing remained constant, the devotion and dedication of those who stepped forward to lead us with integrity and purpose.

Tonight we celebrate their leadership and accomplishments. It is a time to reflect on past glories and future triumphs. The time to feel a deep sense of pride for the leadership you were wise enough to elect last year. The leadership of any organization is truly a reflection of the values of the membership that elected them. Always feel pride in the accomplishments that were achieved under their watchful eyes. Be forever thankful for the love and laughter. Your hearts were touched with joy and you were blessed, for never again will you be able to imagine a life so sweet!

It is with great pride that we introduce the 2010-2011 Executive Board of the Kansas State Council. These beautiful, caring women have led lives that speak volumes of caring and commitment. They aspire to a higher place and realm, and they possess the vision necessary to look beyond that which is ordinary to that which surpasses all expectation.

Over the years of service that brings an incoming president to this most special evening, she forms special relationships and lifelong friendships. She bonds with all those who have shared her journey and traveled alongside her on the road to this destination of high honor. Tonight, Kim has asked these heart sisters to once again travel this road with her by serving as her honor guard.

Kim’s honor guard consists of the her Delta Tau chapter sisters and members of the Kansas State Council who have become special friends to her over the years. Will the honor guard please come forward and take their places.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand and honor our 2010-2011 Kansas State President Kim Kummer escorted by her husband Steve.

At this time Kim would like to express her love and appreciation to her husband, Steve for his continued support throughout the years she has served ESA and her Kansas sisters.

Steve, so much of what we value comes to us in the form of actions, simple, genuine acts of love and kindness – although words are important and from time to time we all need to hear them – Words without action are a hollow gesture at best. Over the years of your life together you have shown Kim time and time again how proud you are of her and how much sharing your life with her has meant to you. You truly let your life speak through your actions when you say nothing at all.

Michelle Cape will sing “When You Say Nothing at All” by Allison Krauss.

Steve as you take your seat – take with you the appreciation of the entire Kansas membership, we are so grateful, not only that you share Kim with us, but that you do it with such an open heart and loving spirit.

Now join us in welcoming the rest of our executive board – please feel free to show your excitement, love and support as we introduce these officers.
First Vice President – President Elect: Marsha Barnes escorted by Marshall Love.
Second Vice President : Phyllis Simmons escorted by her husband John Winters.
Recording Secretary: Janene Radke escorted by her husband Mike.
Corresponding Secretary: Lisa Baum escorted by her husband Bob.
Treasurer: Bonnie Templeton escorted by Mike Wells.
Auditor: Crystal Colllingsworth escorted by her brother Jim.
Workshop Coordinator: Suzi Fletcher escorted by her husband Keith.
Membership Director: Angie Fairbanks escorted by her husband Mark.
Jr. Past President: Pat Josey escorted by her husband Rick.
Chaplain: Jill Mattingly escorted by Keith Bullard.
Parliamentarian: Denise Masterson escorted by John Keener.

Each member of this newly elected Executive Board shares a passion of commitment and caring, they dedicate themselves to serving the needs of others and bringing the voice of hope to ears deafened by fear, pain and misfortune. The true magic of this next year will not only be in their individual support of local projects but of their collective spirit as they continue to act on our behalf, not twelve voices singularly working and motivating all of us to action, but One Voice, speaking through their actions in a unified commitment of ideals, purpose and dedication to all causes that improve the human condition and enlighten the world.

Alex Cape will sing “One Voice” by Barry Manilow

Tonight, as each officer is installed we will share with you in her own words the organization that speaks to her heart and in turn motivates and inspires her to Let Her Life Speak.

Parliamentarian: Denise Masterson, feels passionately about supporting Breast Cancer Research in all of its many forms. She states “I lost two dear friends to breast cancer, one was very young and left two small boys, the other was a chapter sister and left three girls. It is hard to express how difficult it is to see someone you care for deal with this devastating disease. When I served as State President, Breast Cancer Research was the focus for my President’s challenge – and it remains today the cause through which I will let my life speak.” Denise I know you will appreciate these words of humorist Will Rogers – Everyday supposedly educated people speak on something of the other, unfortunately they ain’t saying nothing” One thing we are certain of is that your actions speak volumes. Thank you for letting your life speak and making a difference in the lives of all you touch. Denise will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Chaplain: Jill Mattingly- Jill shares “I have supported Big Brothers & Big Sisters in the past by supporting the bowling tournament and fishing derby and especially by being a big sister to two little girls. Big Brothers & Big Sisters is important to me because kids are important to me. They are our future and because of the decision of the adults in their lives – they are often short changed and many of them are denied a childhood. I try to give them back a least part of that childhood” Pascal said “ Kind words do not cost much. They never blister the tongue or lips. They make others good-natured and produce their own image in the souls of men and a beautiful image it is.” Jill your kind deeds and words help these children see the beautiful image within them and your life speaks to them of all they can be. Jill, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Jr. Past President: Pat Josey has chosen the Wyandotte Center for Community Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. Pat feels strongly that this center which serves clients of all ages from all walks of life, is the best chance for men, women and children to let their lives speak. “The clients have severe mental and physical health issues and the programs provided allow them the opportunity to have many of the simple day to day experiences we all take for granted.” A very wise man once said “They may forget what you say but they will never forget how you make them feel.” Pat regardless of what you say – your actions make them feel special and useful. Pat, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Membership Director: Angie Fairbanks shares “As a result of an educational program given by Jackie Fraenza we began supporting the Topeka Rescue Mission. We began collecting specific items at each business meeting. The need is so great and it has been so fulfilling to me to know that although my individual donations may be small, they mean a great deal to the needy family that benefits from our involvement.” Angie it has been said that you can only speak well when you speak from the heart – the heart has its own voice. Your life speaks from your heart and those less fortunate hear your words of encouragement. Angie, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Workshop Coordinator: Suzi Fletcher supports the Community Day Care Center in Garden City. She states “ It is a place where all children, no matter their economic or ethnic background, can interact and learn the building blocks for their education. I feel the center provides a great service to the community and needs to continue for future generations” Suzi it has been said that we should be still when we have nothing to say but when genuine caring and passion fill you – then let your actions say what words cannot. Suzi, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Auditor: Crystal Colllingsworth says “I can’t imagine being a parent and being unable to feed, clothe or provide shelter for my children. For this reason I have chosen the United Methodist Open Door in Wichita. They provide food, clothing and shelter for the homeless as well as access to showers, laundry facilities, small storage, a telephone message board and mail service. They also have a home based outready program designed to prevent homelessness and help families break out of the cycle of poverty.” Crystal this work exemplifies the words of Edward Everett Hale “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can.” Crystal, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Treasurer: Bonnie Templeton – Bonnie’s favorite organization is the “It’s About Me” Breast Cancer Awareness Association. Formed just seven years ago by breast cancer survivors to promote education about breast cancer and other women’s health issues – this organization does a great deal to educate the community. Every October they sponsor a Women’s Health Expo and sponsor guest speakers throughout the community to speak out on the new guidelines for mammograms and pap smears as well as other controversial health care issues. Because of my own experience with breast cancer, It’s About Me, is very near and dear to my heart.” Bonnie, remember you cannot reach out to touch the hand of a friend without touching their heart. Bonnie, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Corresponding Secretary, Lisa feels strongly about supporting the Disaster Fund and Kansas Care and Share. Lisa states “Although it is vital that we support all of those in need in our communities as well as support the state and international projects, I feel it is equally important that we look to the needs of our ESA sisters. It is a unique benefit of our sisterhood that we take care of each other and know that we are never alone no matter the difficulty” Lisa I found a quote that suites you perfectly “ Speak little but rather show your purpose and power through action.” You quietly work in the background to make things happen for others and as such your actions speak louder than any words could. Lisa, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Recording Secretary: Janene Radke – Janene has chosen the Family Crisis Center in Garden City. “Having been a victim of domestic violence in the past, I feel it is important for me to help others who are in abusive situations. A compassionate listener with the knowledge of the resources available can mean so much to a person in a crisis situation. It is a way that I can ‘Pay it Forward’ as a thank you for all those who helped me” Often to listen is to speak to the heart of others. To live for results would be to sentence oneself to continuous frustrations. The only sure reward is in taking action and impacting the lives of others by those actions. Janeene, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Second Vice President : Phyllis Simmons – Phyllis and her family have been impacted by the Boy Scouts of America. “In 1985 my son earned his Eagle Scout and the honor of that prestigious award has followed him throughout his life. Whenever asked to speak or make a presentation, Brian always lists his Eagle Scout award as one of his proudest accomplishments. On that day in 1985, being pinned with the Mother’s Eagle pin was certainly one of mine. Both of my grandson’s are scouts and hopefully history will repeat itself. “Words are just words, without heart they are simply scribbling on paper – they have no meaning. Phyllis thank you for sharing your words from the heart. Phyllis, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

First Vice President – President Elect: Marsha Barnes. Marsh feels strongly about giving back to the local community. “At the end of the year Delta Chi divides our philanthropic monies 1/3 to state projects and 2/3 to our various local charities – these include Futures Unlimited, the Chamber of Commerce, Big Brother & Big Sisters, Prom, Community Bible School, the local Food Bank, the Ministerial Alliance, new lights for the football field and many more. This not only makes ESA more visible in the community but the community has come to know that a part of the profits from any project or donation will be given back to the area” Marsha, Ralph Nichols said “The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them. You have listened to the needs of your community and you have let your life speak in response. Marsha, will you pledge to continue to Let Your Life Speak?

Madame President Kim – it is no surprise that Kim has chosen CASA – it is a project very important not only to her but to Steve as well, and they do make a great team. When asked about CASA Kim replies “I was fortunate to be raised by loving parents who gave my sisters and I endless opportunities, new experience and a safe and loving home. Children in the court system and in need of CASA volunteers rarely have those memories or any sense of security. The work I do for CASA is behind the scenes in fundraising bit I know the time spent planning & the money raised benefits both the children and those that serve as a child’s voice in court. CASA volunteers are the eyes and ears of the judge and they dedicate themselves to see that every child has a chance to know a loving home and be afforded endless opportunities.” Kim your theme “Let Your Life Speak” could not be more perfect.
